Winetricks and Multiple Wine Processes
Hello, I thought this would be a question someone asked before but my search returned no hits so... I have several Wine process, mainly because some software I use requires Win components or registry entries that screw up other applications. I run these apps alone in dedicated Wine processes. For example, I have the folllwing: .wine .wine-lotro .wine2 .wine3 Is there any way to tell winetricks

GNOME menu entries for wine run games
I have been trying to add a launcher to the gnome menu for some of my wine games, but I have found that when I add them to the menu the games complain about missing files, I assume because it is looking for the rest of the game files in the directory that the launcher is in. This doesn't happen when I run the same command within the games directory they work fine. I used to have this problem

Wine apps load from Ubuntu application munu but not from cli
Hey, I have just installed civilization IV and it's expansions in wine. After doing the required workarounds to make it run correctly it seems to work quite well. However, I have come to realize that I am only able to launch it when using the automatic added menu entry in the wine folder Ubuntu menu. I have reviewed the command being executed and tried the command copied from the launcher

Two Versions Possible?
Hi, Does anyone know the specifics of running two versions of WINE? I have an old WinBlows app that will work only with the 20010216 version, but some of my other apps do run better with the latest version of WINE. Would I be able to stick the old version somewhere in my directory hierarchy and still have a newer version for my newer apps? I suspect that the development folks do something

Wine taking unacceptably long to start up (Fedora 14 x86_64)
Whenever I run any application with wine it takes upwards of five minutes to start, even apps included with wine like wine cmd. I have been googling this for hours and cannot find anything really applicable to my situation. I am running Fedora 14 x86_64. I don't have a network printer. As far as I am aware fc-cache-32 doesn't exist on Fedora. I am trying to get some other program to

Dawn of War trouble and other questions
Hi: I'm a relative noob to Wine, and I'm having a little trouble getting Dawn of War (regular, plus Winter Assault) to run under Debian Lenny. When I try to install it, it always tries to install automatically to the c: drive, which I don't want to do because I don't have enough space (running on a laptop). I do, however, have a USB external drive, which I'd like it to load

Proper Shortcuts!
Hi, i was really searching a lot (not only on this board), but im still not able to create reliable Launchers / Shortcuts for Wine Applications. While there are certainly many ways, which will SOMEtimes work for SOME Apps, I would appreciate it very much if there was a secure, reliable by-the-book way. So, there are certain apps on my pc, that run fine with wine, but it is of course always a

Unhandled exception launching games from Steam
So after years of running a 'pure' Linux machine, I finally decided to install Wine so I could play some of my old games - and it's been a disaster. Using either Wine 1.5.3 or 1.3.3 trying to launch Half-Life Source results in nothing happening, trying to launch from the commandline gives this stack trace: Code: wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address

[Ubuntu 11.10] Unable to run (java?) games
Hello everyone Wine is great. I've managed to (through PlayOnLinux) get Steam installed and I'm able to play a load of my games in the comfort of Ubuntu. Currently I have all my Half Life and Half Life 2 mods working for the most part. My issue is: Some games come with a browser or launcher that checks if the game is up to date. All of these launchers tend to contain some Java, Flash

Multiple Instances of Diablo 2
Hi all, I'm currently trying to run multiple Diablo 2 Windows with 1 user. Thats what i managed to do until now: if I use export WINEPREFIX=~/.wine2 and then run a copied d2, it works to join bnet twice, but when both are in the same game, 1 will get a Timeout. So i tried to find a sloution (and found one): I made another user (called "d21") and installed D2 into his personal .wine

cant play after updating to ubunto 11.10
I recently updated my Ubunto from 11.04 to 11.10 and I can no longer play windows games via wine. However I can still launch and use Steam, but I cant play any of the games there, Steam shows the "preparing to launch..." message but the game never launches. Also with World of Warcraft the game launcher opens up, I can see the news and all, but when I push the play button the launcher

Xfire Crashing
I am having some troubles with Xfire (installer number 43094). I am running Ubuntu 10.10. Xfire starts and I can log in, but as soon as I click something, it crashes. I'm starting with a fresh WINEPREFIX. There is nothing else installed there, and no changes in winecfg. Windows version is set to XP. First couple trys, running Wine 1.2.2 from the Ubuntu repositories:

Install Wine's fake-windows directory in different place
By default Wine installs its fake-windows part into $HOME. I want rather have it on a separate partition, that I mount as /wine. How can I do this?
