Fallout: New Vegas?
Hey folks. I'm having trouble getting Fallout: New Vegas to work under Wine. (Civ 5 is working okay for me, for the record). I'm running on Ubuntu 10.10 x64, using the latest (1.3.5) from the ubuntu-wine launchpad.net repository. Launching steam works fine, and launching Fallout: NV gives me the splash screen. I can pick the setup option (and I set it to lowest detail/windowed, for

Wine 1.3 packaged for Ubuntu, must be installed explicitly
I have added a new series of Wine 1.3 packages to the Wine PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa These are for 10.04 (Lucid) only and must be explicitly installed: sudo apt-get install wine1.3 Users who simply install the wine or wine1.2 packages (as in, all existing users) will instead get the stable Wine 1.2 release, which is still packaged there. Thanks, Scott Ritchie

Still something wrong. I've uncommented the deb-src lines in sources.list as you suggested (and I thought it couldn't hurt to try --allow-unauthenticated as well) and: root at limpet:/etc/apt# apt-get update --allow-unauthenticated Hit:1 http://nz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic InRelease Hit:2 http://repo.steampowered.com/steam precise InRelease Hit:3

Package selectr: issue with the apt-get version, but not with the one installed from R?
Hi I am facing an issue with the package selectr, where I get an error trying to run an example code: css_to_xpath(".testclass"), gives could not find function "xpath_class" The issue arises however only with the package installed with apt-get, not when installed from within R. I got a similar issue with maptools, where I was not able to use data(wrld_map), and switching to

A guide to R packages for Ubuntu
As per a request, here is a brief guide to what is available to R users as packages in Ubuntu. Each release of Ubuntu includes the latest version of R and the recommended packages. In addition, there are approximately 80 additional r-cran packages available in the default repositories. The limitation to these packages is that they are not updated and reflect the current version of the

R-devel no longer supports Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (insufficient PCRE version)
Hi For the record, Dirk (after a couple of false starts and admirable persistance!) has got this to work for me. So on Ubuntu 14.04, adding Dirk's PPA, followed by apt-get update pulls down a backport for libpcre3. Thanks Dirk! Please be careful with R 3.4.2 upgrades via CRAN, launchpad, ...
Corrected packages are now on the RRutter PPA ( https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/ubuntu/rrutter) and soon on CRAN mirrors. If you have any issues or questions, please let me know. Ubuntu packages and broken link in docs
Hi, Two things: 1. Does anyone know of a good PPA with updated packages of Dovecot for Ubuntu? "For the latest Dovecot for latest Ubuntu LTS see Xiaoka APT Repository. (Outdated. Could someone provide a ppa for latest stable Dovecot, please?)" 2. On the http://wiki2.dovecot.org/PrebuiltBinaries#Ubuntu page there is a link to a supposedly outdated PPA, the ppa page now redirects to

CRAN R 4.0.0 for Ubuntu repos missing r-recommend dependency
I noticed that R 4.0.0 is now available for ubuntu on CRAN. I attempted to do a clean install on 18.04 using: sudo apt install r-base after adding deb https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu bionic-cran40/ to /etc/apt/sources.list. Unfortunately, apt reports that r-recommend is a dependency and it won't be installed. Upon inspecting the R4.0 repos r-recommend is missing not only for

Please be careful with R 3.4.2 upgrades via CRAN, launchpad, ...
Please be careful with upgrades to R 3.4.2. To cut a long story short, this has to do with minor internal changes in R 3.4.0 from April which require _some_ packages to be rebuilt. I argued for that approach (ie: incremental, careful, no side effects) within Debian, and lost. The _official_ packages in Debian now carry a new tag r-api-3.4 (as opposed to previous r-api-3) in order to force clean
