Once again... strange StarCraft battlenet issue.
Hi everybody, I know this problem have been posted a few times, but that one is a bit different and seems to be still unresolved. I use Wine 1.0 on my laptop with 2 operating systems (Slamd64 Linux and MS Windows XP). When I play StarCraft on Battlenet under Windows it's all perfect, but when I run it with wine - there are huge lags which make the game unplayable. Computer is conected by a

Need help with Warcraft II BattleNet Edition and LAN play
Hello, I'm trying to get LAN play working with Warcraft II BNE. As many of you know, W2BNE is so old that LAN play is done through IPX networking. I realize there are instructions for installing IPX on Linux, but I'm using Mac OS X, for which there are no IPX solutions. However, I have found that there is now a (Windows) winsock wrapper that tunnels IPX packets over UDP called IPXWrapper

How to put a background image on a panel
Well I''ve made a lot of progress on my app, but I''m stuck on figuring out how to add a bitmap. I have a notebook and a page panel. On this panel I want to put a backdrop image and scale it to the size of the panel. How do I do this? I looked at some of the samples related to bitmaps and I could not see how to apply that to my situation. Thanks, T.

Getting old versions of wine?
Hi, i used to play Warcraft 3 on wine very well years ago and recently decided to give it another go, only to find that it won't work with recent versions of wine. I think this is sad beyond words, but its not my project. I come here to ask some guidance in getting an old version of wine. My googling reveals that 0.9.10 is the one i should get. I use Ubuntu 7.10 and i can try to compile from

Two XGL questions
I know this list is meant for discussion of compiz specifically, but .... 1) I sometimes see compiz spit out "Could not bind pixmap to texture" messages, even though it _appears_ to be working fine. I randomly guess that this is due to me running out of video memory (iirc I have 64mb of vram). Is that possibly a problem? I think Vista and OS X manually manage video

GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE and dual-screens
Hi, I'm running compiz on a r300, dual-screens setup. The r300 driver has a GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE = 2048 limit, and it shows: the nautilus backdrop window doesn't cover both screens. Is there a mean to let compiz sort of "split" the nautilus window to stay within the 2048 limit on each screen ? Thanks, Xav PS: please Cc me, I'm not suscribed

Creating Boxpot with R within bash script
I will confess to being very wet behind the ears when it comes to scripting, so with that as a backdrop, here is my question. I can create a box and whisker plot without any problem from the command line, but incorporating that process into a bash script has proved problematic. Below is the portion of the bash script that fails: R --save --no-save --vanilla << EOF CAPE.df =

what does it mean when my main effect 'disappears' when using lme4?
Hello, Setup: I have data with ~10K observations. Observations come from 16 different laboratories (labs). I am interested in how a continuous factor, X, affects my dependent variable, Y, but there are big differences in the variance and mean across labs. I run this model, which controls for mean but not variance differences between the labs: lm(Y ~ X + as.factor(labs)). The effect of X is

beginner question - effective way to chart sleep habits
Hi - beginning R user question here - each day, over the course of several months, I've tracked the time I go to bed, the time I wake up, and my hours spent sleeping. What would be a good way to display this information? I think it would be ideal to show something resembling a bar and whisker graph for each day that would show the interval of hours spent asleep (or perhaps just a bar

Plotting panels at arbitrary places on a map, rather than on a lattice
I think it is easiest to describe what I want in terms of the concrete problem I have. I have data from a number of countries in each of which a sample of people was interviewed. In presenting the results in a forthcoming collaborative publication much emphasis will be placed on the multi-centre nature of the study. Although I suspect colleagues may do this with shaded maps I would prefer to
