Whine in dual core Windows PC if R uses full CPU capacity
Dear R-developers, the following may seem a weird question for R-devel – I try anyway, because it does seem to be related to usage of R and R's way of interacting with the hardware. When running R (2.4.0) on my new dual core Windows XP system (Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, Mainboard ASUS P5B, BeQuiet Power Unit), I observe various types of sounds (not related to fans) when running at full

strsplit
Hello R Gurus: I would like to take a character string and split at the $ sign. I thought that strsplit would do it, but here are the results: > vv [1] "whine$ts1" > vv [1] "whine$ts1" > strsplit(vv,"$") [[1]] [1] "whine$ts1" Does anyone have any suggestions, please? Thanks, Edna Bell

bcmxcp: stop whining (and log spamming)
corrupted checksums happen all the time with the 6-port serial card, even when only using one port (and I don't give a shit about the other ports, if anybody has a one-port laying around...) so stop whining already. $OpenBSD$ --- drivers/bcmxcp_ser.c.orig Wed Aug 23 11:15:54 2006 +++ drivers/bcmxcp_ser.c Wed Aug 23 11:26:37 2006 @@ -168,8 +168,8 @@ int get_answer(unsigned char *data, unsi

hm ...
About two weeks ago i was whining about an inode that got lost, now i'm going to whine more about strange things happening here. A matroxfb just oopsed on me (thats not strange), the machine got unusuable, so i logged in from another and got the idea to touch /forcefsck. Upon reboot, fsck said that some inodes are in use but have dtime set and that some files are illegal sockets. Now this

[LLVMdev] Trailing whitespace removal (important for CVS users!)

Orange Box on WINE (Mac OS X)
Hello, I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem, or has tried this, but I am running WINE under Mac OS 10.5.7 on my MacBook and I'm trying to play the Half Life 2 Demo to see if it's worth purchasing Orange Box. I've installed STEAM and I have no problem running that with WINE, but when I try to play the demo everything stops working. I enter the demo from STEAM, and I

Asterisk SIP Trunking with Cisco UC 560
Hello, I'm interested in knowing if anyone out there has successfully connected Asterisk to a Cisco UC 560 via SIP trunking? We have a client of ours that we put in an Asterisk install, one of their sister companies who we don't control is putting in a Cisco UC 560. From my looking I think it can be done, but the vendor is telling them it can't. Thought I'd ask around here and see

Playing Gamemaker 6 and 7 games on OSX?
I have recently gotten back into making a games with gamemaker. I had a big game that I didn't finish on my old computer running Windows XP. But then my stupid sister dropped my laptop done the stairs. That was about 2 months ago, and I got a new laptop running OSX because my parents hate Windows (while I love it). I was looking through a flashdrive with my stuff from my old laptop on it

Use Windows USB drivers?
Hi, I'm using an application that works very well with Wine but that application requires a specific USB hardware where no (and no similar) Linux driver is available for. Therefore my question is: the application comes with a fully working Windows driver for that hardware, is it possible to use that driver to access the hardware via Wine? Until now I could not get it work but I'd expect

Is this an issue?
I just set up a UPS on a Debian Stretch system for my sister-in-law.  Obviously, I want NUT to properly shut down the unit when the battery gets low.  This means upsmon must be running and healthy.  When I run 'systemctl status nut-monitor`, I see the following in the journal: nut-monitor.service: Supervising process 778 which is not our child. We'll most likely not notice when

I stumbled on this list...
Hi All, I am new to the list and have ordered myself a Asterisk Developer's Kit (TDM). I am just waiting on the order from a reseller of digium. I have yet to play around with the system when it arrives. And I haven't looked into the manual yet. I do hope I have all the hardwares to test first before I go and buy a sipura spa-2000 unit. I have my sister who is living in Germany.
