Text for built-in recordings
Steve Prior's mention of using Allison's voice with Cepstral reminded me
to ask: for a listing of the text for the built-in recordings.
I found a web page but I'd prefer not having to scrape the info out of
it. I didn't notice anything while wandering through the source code/files.
I want to rebuild them for my system using Callie's voice.
Thanks,
Rod

How to wrap or split labels on plot
Dear R gurus,
I want to wrap labels that are too long for a plot. I have looked at
strsplit(), substr(), nchar(), and strwrap(). I think it's some
combination but I'm having difficulty trying to figure out the right
combo. I think I need to create some new matrix containing the labels
already split, though I'm not sure if maybe there is a quick and dirty
way to address this

SSD Drives
Has anyone installed a high I/O application such as an email server on
SSD drives? Was thinking about doing two SSD's in RAID1. It would
solve my I/O latency issues but I have heard that SSD's wear out
quickly in high I/O situations? Something like each memory location
only has X many writes before its done. Just wandering if anyone has
tested it and if newer SSD's are better about

simpletelecom.com??? are they a SCAM?
Hi List!
any body use www.simpletelecom.com?
I subscribe to www.simpletelecom.com for A-Z termination and paid
US$15.00 and US$70.00 via credit card in two days, but my account has
US$15.00 only. I checked my credit card from the bank and they said me
the payment already paid to merchant.
I've lost US$70.00 :(
so anyone here has experience with them? are they a SCAM?
Thanks!

nnet classification accuracy vs. other models
I was wandering if anybody ever tried to compare the classification
accuracy of nnet to other (rpart, tree, bagging) models. From what I
know, there is no reason to expect a significant difference in
classification accuracy between these models, yet in my particular case
I get about 10% error rate for tree, rpart and bagging model and 80%
error rate for nnet, applied to the same data.
Thanks.

Can anyone explain how the disk elevator works and if there is anyway

improve performance.

aacraid monitoring tool?
I've got myself an Adaptec 2200 HW RAID card to play for couple of days. Tha
card uses aacraid device driver. Seems to work nicely, however just wandering
if there's a tool (prefferably CLI) for CentOS that can read out RAID
configuration data, status of individual drives, maybe even manage
(create/delete) RAID devices?
Thanks for any and all pointers.

How to demo the Power of Asterisk
Hi all,
I have the opportunity to demo asterisk to a large group of people, and
was just wandering *how* to do that?
ie, I can put a couple of phones on a desk, which looks nice, but
doesn't really look exciting, because they are just phones.... so, how
do you 'demo' the true power of asterisk??
Hopefully I'll have a couple of minutes to stand up and talk, and then

Weird Samba upload performance on Gigabit network
Here's a weird one that may have nothing to do with Samba and more to
do with network frame sizes.
I have recently upgraded the network infrastructure to support
gigabit speeds.
- OSX Tiger to OSX Tiger file transfers operate at gigabit speeds.
- Samba 3.0.23C (Suse 10) to OSX Tiger file transfers operate at
gigabit speeds.
- BUT OSX Tiger to Samba 3.0.23C (Suse 10) file transfers

Regression tree
Hi everybody.
I'm a new R user and i've been searching a tool for construction of
regression tree...
I found function "tree()" written by a certain Mr. Ripley, and seems to be
just
what i'm looking for, but when i try to use it in R replies me:"Object not
found".
So I was wandering if I should include one special library or something
like that?
Thanks a lot,
