Installin wine 1.3 shouldn't be this complicated!
I'm new to ubuntu but i'm starting to understand it. However, Ubuntu is completely useless for me if I can't run the latest version of wine (1.3). Wine 1.2 was working great on 10.04 however photoshop cs4 wouldn't install on it. So I upgraded to maverick, deleted wine 1.2, and am now trying to install wine 1.3. Should be simple, right? I've added the correct repositories to

WoW on Ubuntu 10.04
Hi, some time ago i've installed WoW in Ubuntu 9.10 using wine 1.1.42 (wine1.2 ubuntu package). Everything fine, had a few fps problems but with some tips found in wowwiki i've manage to increase fps to about 20. Some users would say it's still low, but i was happy with it. Well, some weeks ago i've updated to Ubuntu lucid (10.04). It's great, but my WoW fps drop down to about

Moving to R 3.0.0 on Ubuntu
This is a post I just added to my Ubuntu R Blog (http://www.personal.psu.edu/mar36/blogs/the_ubuntu_r_blog/2013/03/moving-to-r-300-on-ubuntu.html). As you may (or may not) be aware of, R 3.0.0 is [scheduled to be released](http://www.r-project.org/) on April 3rd. Since this is a major release and there may be some growing pains (but I hope not) in the move 3.0.0, here is some information

Wine 1.3 packaged for Ubuntu, must be installed explicitly
I have added a new series of Wine 1.3 packages to the Wine PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa These are for 10.04 (Lucid) only and must be explicitly installed: sudo apt-get install wine1.3 Users who simply install the wine or wine1.2 packages (as in, all existing users) will instead get the stable Wine 1.2 release, which is still packaged there. Thanks, Scott Ritchie

Backporting R 3.0.0 to Quantal, Precise, and Lucid
Today (May 4, 2013) I will begin the process of backporting R 3.0.0 to Quantal, Precise, and Lucid. This will include all the recommended packages and the packages for R found in the universe repository for Ubuntu. Things to keep in mind: - If you do not want to receive these upgrades and you use the CRAN repositories or my Launchpad PPA, please remove them from your apt/synaptic sources lists.

R 3.0.0 and Raring Ringtail (Ubuntu 13.04)
New .deb packages for R 3.0.0 on Raring Ringtail (13.04) are available on both [CRAN](http://cran.us.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/) and my [Launchpad PPA](https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/rrutter). Some notes for this release. - The initial build for Raring Ringtail did not come with Tcl/Tk being supported. This issue has been addressed and the current release supports Tcl/Tk. -

SynthInvent problems
Can someone tell me why some lines of text get cut off in SynthInvent[1]? A screenshot of this happening is at http://661.org/tmp/synthinvent.png [1] http://synthesizers.com/synthinvent.html. I'm the one Roger noted at the bottom regarding Ubuntu 9.04. I've since upgraded to 10.04 using this /etc/apt/sources.list entry: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu lucid main

Debian and Ubuntu packages of 1.2.5
The Xapian 1.2.5 packages are now in Debian unstable, and I will upload backports for Debian 6.0 (squeeze) once they've all migrated to testing, which should happen in a few days time: http://backports.debian.org/ I've uploaded backported packages of 1.2.5 for hardy, karmic, lucid, maverick and natty, except for xapian-bindings which failed to build on hardy:

Getting current Wine in Ubuntu 10.04?
I'm on Ubuntu Lucid with the Wine PPA in my repos, and wine --version still gives "wine-1.2", not 1.3.0 and on. What's the magic incantation to get the dev releases? - d.

puppet repository from puppetlabs
Hi All, Is there a ubuntu repository managed by puppetlabs? I am using lucid and latest puppet package it offers is 0.25.4. I could of course just download source, or a deb from debian or newer ubuntu, or get it using gem. But would be nice if there is a PPA available for lucid, cuz it would work nicely with routine upgrade. puppetdashboard worked nicely with the puppet labs ppa deb

Ubuntu PPA changes
I've created a new PPA in which to maintain the backported versions of the latest Debian packages to Ubuntu releases: https://launchpad.net/~xapian/+archive/ubuntu/backports The reason for this change is that the existing PPA is stuck using a GPG key created when the PPA was first created a decade ago. This is a 1024 bit RSA key using SHA1 as the hash, and that's not really secure by

r-base-dev not installing in Ubuntu 16.04
I have recently re-installed R on my Ubuntu system to get R 3.5 and found this to have worked: # you may need to remove incumbent repos e.g. with: sudo apt-add-repository --remove ppa:marutter/rrutter # add new repos sudo apt-add-repository ppa:marutter/rrutter3.5 # for base R sudo apt-add-repository ppa:marutter/c2d4u4.5 # for pkgs - this saved me lots of time installing my set-up At the end
