Switching to 16 bit colour ...
"bit of trouble" - good pun!
But I do hope it gets solved. Can you make a bash file (oh no - a pun of my own!) to automate any of those annoyances? Would putting the game "in its own WINE" help at all?
Cheers,
Jake

windows XP versus wine
Hallo wine user team,
I am not sure if I need an original XP version to work with wine. In other words. Can I use wine without installing XP, for example. Because I have several old applications, which I would like to run on linux together with wine. Would wine emulates the hardware like a virtual machine, or takes wine the local hardware to deal with?
Thanks for your answer in advanced.

Switch between Wine Versions for best App support - "glow"
Hallo wine users,
I just found a (maybe!?) very unkown project for better wine handling. It is named glow (- some GLasses Of Wine) and enables wine users to start their applications with different versions of wine easily. The motivation for this python-script is of course the problem that some satisfactorily supported windows applications does not any longer run so well in later versions of wine.

Problem: enable multiuser wine
Hallo, folks,
in openSuSE 12.1, I installed wine from the Wine CVS Builds repository. I knew it would work perfectly as of my experience on 11.4. In the end, it does! BUT I tried a different thing - it does run the programme, but only for one user!
To get the programmes installed under WINE working for every user (one single laptop, different accounts), I tried the following recommendation

DameWare NT Utilities 6.x fails to start / 'no network'
Hi,
In order to research the feasibility of moving onto *nix based systems I am currently testing Windows-only applications under WINE 1.1.8 on Mandriva Free 2009.
The application I am currently testing is Raxco's DameWare NT Utilities (including DameWare Mini Remote Control), latest version as available after registering.
I have found that there is an AppDB entry for DameWare stating that

Doom Builder 1
My primary use for Wine is to run an application called Doom Builder 1.86. It's a GUI-based level editor for the 1994 id Software game Doom. It is available at http://www.doombuilder.com/
In Wine versions 1.3.28 and below this has always run without major problems, the only "workarounds" being to put msvbsm60.dll and oleaut32.dll in the program folder, and set oleaut32 native in
