Oracle, java and other heavy stuff....
Hi Team, as I''m new to XEN my questions might be stupid - but I hope the answers wont be :-) I like for testing purposes to run Oracle and a jboss server on an XEN / Debian in dom0. The Oracle data shall be stored on a cluster of other XEN domains. I would also like to have Oracle clients and other jboss server running in XEN domains. As far as I noticed this shouldn''t

Oracle java RPM
Hi Everyone, Years ago the recommended way to install Sun's java was to install from the tar.gz file because the RPM they supplied did some bad things (clobbered other files or something...can't remember the details). Is this still the case with Oracle's java RPM, or is it now safe to install? Ranbir -- Kanwar R.S. Sandhu

status of Java & rJava?
Simon, Java is still one of the most popular languages out there, in particular in large organizations. See e.g. https://www.tiobe.com/tiobe-index/ . However, there has been a lot of confusion because of Oracle's licencing change in 2019. But the good news is, there are more alternatives than ever. See e.g.

Oracle 8.1.7 client
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO close to getting my ERP package to run. GRRR. Latest version of Codeweaver WINE, just downloaded yesterday. IE works, MSOffice works well - no icons, but still runs, including JAVA. So, WINE seems to work OK. The program is a Delphi EXE, using the BDE. I can even run BDEADMIN, but when attempting to login to the database, there is a lot of disk churning (indicating I am

Oracle Instant Client 11g on CentOS 5 (32-bit) workaround
I downloaded the RPMs from the Oracle web site (otn.oracle.com) and successfully installed them on my C5 box, but the sqlplus client software would not run properly. After a few iterations with sealert, I finally got a handle on what was happening. It turns out that most of the shared libraries Oracle installs need to have their SElinux file context modified to allow relocation. Here's

Oracle Client for Rails on FC5
It seems to be quite an issue to get an Oracle 10g client running on Fedora 5 (FC5) Linux. Does rails (or active record to be more concise) really need the full (300 MB) Oracle client or is this small easy-to-install Oracle-Instant-Client sufficient? Or is there a pure-Ruby solution that works without any Oracle-client installation? Best regards Karl

Wine and Oracle client OO4O
I have some Custom VB apps that use Oracle OO4O for database communication. I can get Oracle 817 and 920 clients to work on my wine, but so far any of my attempts to get the Custom VB app to run do not work, generating run time error #5 that it couldn't get a valid Oracle connection going. Has any gotten a VB app to connect to Oracle on Wine? Thanks. -Crispin
