Dear R-ians:

I'm running R2.9.2 on a 6 year old Windows XP DELL with 2 Gig RAM and a 3MHz
Pentium 4 chip.

I've written a package using the User Menus Under Windows commands
(winMenuAdd, etc). It works very well.

I have 6 test cases and running any one of them requires many selections
form the menus and some keyboard entry, and it takes me hours to exercise
them all to see

uncompressed FLAC
Hi
i have seen that the dbPowerAmp ripping and encoding software supports a
new so-called "FLAC uncompressed" format, e.g.

i know only the normal flac compression levels from 0 to 8. have i
missed an option on the flac comamnd line tool or how could i achieve

uncompressed FLAC
What dbPowerAmp does is encapsulate the wav file into a FLAC container
without actually compressing it. I guess it can be a bit arguable if you
can technically call it a FLAC file :)
It's like using "Store" mode in RAR, for instance. The idea behing this
"uncompressed FLAC" is to give the FLAC tagging abilities to people who
don't want to compress their files. But

CD ripper software
I've been having problems with Audiograbber, it got the track breaks all
wrong on a couple of CDs. I think it re-used the track breaks from the first
CD when reading subsequent CDs.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good CD ripper? I've also tried
Exact Audio Copy, but didn't get on with it very well.

Duplicate Tag
Hi Dave,
I haven't reviewed metaflac to see whether its algorithm might incorrectly show a tag twice. It's possible that dBpoweramp appended a tag that already existed. I imagine that if metaflac says there's an occurrence of the tag with no value, and another with a value, then that's probably accurate. Can you show the output of metaflac? That might help verify.
You could use

listening to gsm files
Hello list,
I am having trouble listening to GSM files created by Asterisk using a
browser. I am noticing that some of my users succeed in listening to them
and some others don't. I guess it is something of a codec problem that
does not seem to be installed on all machines (though they are all WinXP).
Anybody knows what one should do to listen to GSM files?
I send files through the

deployment of software
I have Samba and about 40 WinXP Clientes running.
Now I?m trying to find a way to deploy software (for example
updates of E-Mail Client, Windows Patches) to my Clients.
I was playing around with AutoIt and some "switch-user-tools" for
windows, which really works but also is kind of complicated and time
consuming.
In my environment, every user got his own Logonscript on the Linuxserver

Freeware windows ogg audio CD burner?
Does such a thing exist?

I know I can convert the oggs to wavs and then to the audio CD, but it would
be good to do it in one step.

If there is nothing available right now, are there any freeware /
open-source products in the pipeline?
Thanks

Update MS Windows PATH variable based on a R script
Dear list,
this is not directly an R question, but it is somewhat related to R
aspects, so I hope it's okay to post it here:
I'd like to update my windows PATH based on a script routine in order to
make sure that crucial components are contained. Much like what happens
at the installation of Rtools (if desired). Now, can you do that from
within R or do I need some sort of windows

how to compress 93gb speech mp3 files to opus files
Hi I am Rupesh from India. I have a huge directory of size 93.5 gb with
8500 mp3 files and 2000 sub directories.
All these mp3s are speeches recorded by someone at 64 kbps. I want to
compress these files recursively to opus using lame or another tool with 16
kbps bit rate and 11050 sample rate.
I have compressed the above huge directory with above options using ffmpeg
and the resulted

If I run the metaflac command, "metaflac --show-all-tags path\filename". There is a tag that is listed twice. Only one of the tags has a value. This seems to be the case for all of my flac files. I ripped these with dBpoweramp and this tag was added/defined as a "custom" tag.
I can run the same command using exiftool, "exiftool --tag-all path\filename" and I only

[sorta offtopic] Removing bad bytes from filenames
I'm moving my Ogg Vorbis collection off of my Linux server and onto my
laptop. I plan on using iTunes to play my collection, but, that's a
whole 'nother can of worms.
I'm having trouble moving my complete collection over because dbPowerAmp
(an application I used to love) made some dumb decisions about naming my
files. For example, in track/album/artist names that contained a

Patching XP clients on Samba PDC

Hello,
Does anyone have a good suggestion for patching XP clients on a Samba
PDC domain? I've tried using autoit and sysinternal's psexec to write
a script to do this but this doesn't work well because the computer
has to be active and our machines lock the machine if it's not active
in 15 minutes.
I hate having to log onto every

Audio CDs not detected by winecfg, and dbpoweramp CD Ripper
Hi !
Audio CDs seem to be invisible to winecfg. I want to use dbpowerramp CD Ripper under Linux using WINE. CD Ripper doesn't see audio CDs, too.
I am using WINE 1.3.33, Ubuntu 11.10 64bit. Ubuntu itself correctly identifies the CD drives, and the Audio CDs. The CD-Rom-Drives are internal ATAPI drives, and external Plextor drives connected via firewire. If I put _data_ CDs into those drives

How to generate a report with graphics and tables?
Hello R-Users,
I have some data sets which change on a daily bases. So far I have
imported these sets into R, done all my evaluations resulting in a
couple of plots, charts and tables of numbers which I copy&pasted via
clipboard into Powerpoint.
The procedure is always the same and I wonder, whether there is no
easier way for doing so. Is there some type of "report generator"
