rgl, openmesa, nvidia. Oh my!
I've caused a new problem for myself. I wonder if you have seen it.
On Ubuntu 9.04 I had a lot of hangs with the nvidia packages and so I
updated to the 185 edition on this website:
https://launchpad.net/~nvidia-vdpau/+archive/ppa
The video drivers are much better! However, I notice now I don't have
all of the working pieces of the X11/openGL development toolkit in
order to compile R

Diablo 2 issue with direct3d
I'm running wine 1.2.2 and used the blizzard installer while downloading everything off of their site for d2 - No expansion yet. I tried to run d2 to make sure its working up to this point before I continue to install lod. I get an error that goes like this:
Error 25: A critical error has occurred while initializing Direct3D.
I thought wine didn't support direct3D and that was why I was

Low Framerate in Oblivion
I've been getting max 10 FPS in Oblivion, even with extremely low graphics settings. Any ideas why? I didn't have any problems with running Oblivion on Windows, and even for Wine this seems quite low. I think it might be my graphics card drivers possibly.
OS: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic
GPU: nVidia 8600M GT

pv_ops kernel and nvidia binary driver
Just wondering what it will take to get the nvidia binary driver
working on a pv_ops kernel.
It makes it difficult to debug without the source to the nvidia
driver, but I think it should be possible to get it to work without
changing the binary driver. If the dom0 kernel had access to all the
resources that a bare metal kernel did, then it should work right?

How do I use the developers version of Wine 1.1.20?
I'm still not sure how I did it, but I managed to use the link http://wiki.winehq.org/GitWine for the latest development version, and even installed git (blind man navigating New York City streets). So now all I have to do is
Code:
git fetch ; git rebase origin
to stay up to date. My question is how do I run programs with it? When I do the normal
Code:
wine setup.exe
for example, it says

Installing R Packages on ubuntus
Hello,
Please I am a learner. My operating system is ubuntus and I am trying to
install raster package from R-forge site. I entered sudo apt-get install
r-base-dev on the command line and that worked fine. I then typed R at the
command line so as to run R. Inside R, I typed >
install.packages("raster",repos="http://R-Forge.R-project.org<http://r-forge.r-project.org/>")

Screen Flicker
I am new to wine and I am trying to play Jedi Knight 2 version 1.04. I have installed it fine, but when I try to play it, the screen is constantly flickering. This does not happen with some of my other games. I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope and the latest version of wine. Is there something I can do to diagnose or fix this problem? I'm using the default drivers. I have an HP

Streaming large videos causes server's networking to crash
Greetings all; I really hope someone can help me. I recently upgraded
to the most recent version (from a year-old version) of Samba, on a
server now running on Ubuntu Server Jaunty Jackalope x64. After
upgrading, whenever I play large media files on my Vista machine
streamed from the Samba server, the networking functionality on the
