Medieval total war
I installed the game - Medieval total war. It seems everything works fine, but there is one problem. When launching the game. I saw the screen does not display military unit or any other game related stuff (e.g. forest, casstle, troop, etc.) It only shows a screen that contains grass and a blue something like sea.
Though when clicking the military unit, I can see green spots on the ground

Programs Won't Run in WINE
Hi! I've been using Linux for exactly six days, now, and I've been using Linux Mint for two (I made the mistake of trying to start-out with Debian).
Anyway, I'm trying to get WINE to work. So far, I can get things to install, but nothing really runs. For example:
*Oblivion: works until I click to make a new character, and then crashes before the intro video. There is no

Disk drive question
I am new to Wine--I tried it about 7 or 8 years ago, with no luck
whatever, and now for the first time I'm
trying it again. I am amazed at how well it works! I have installed 2
windows programs, DraftSight and
GcmWin. The first is a CAD program and the second produces a Great
Circle Map centered on your input
coordinates. I would like to try and install an old AutoCad, but I'm

rails migrations - enhanced usage
Hello,
When I am writing rails migrations, quite often I make mistake in them which
causes the migration tasks to stop halfway with error.
This causes lots of problem, because it results in half of the things in
migrations changed and other half not. Also, as the schema number is changed,
so things cannot be rolled back.
Is there any way to make the entire migration action atomic, i.e.,

Medieval 2: Total War Golden Pack (with expansion) problem
Ok I know that this is supposed to be "garbage" on 1.1.7 Wine.
But I have Wine 1.0.1 on Kubuntu 8.10 on "i868" computer.
Also should I try installing only the main game without the expansion pack,
would it work.
Please help as I bought it in conviction it's gold on wine.
Thanks for help

How do I get WINE to see a mounted disc image as a CD?
I prefer to run games that require CDs from image files, since it is faster and protects the life of my CDs. In windows, I would just mount the disc image and I could then play. But using Wine and Ubuntu, it appears to work differently.
When installing a Windows CD using WINE under Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit, how should I go about mounting a disc image so it is seen by games running under WINE as a CD?

Medieval 2 Total War
Good evening!
So, I have a problem with installing this game on ubuntu-linux. I tried it with Wine which turned out not to be able to set the doublebuffer in the configuration menu.
First there were no problems, but after having installed quite half of the game there was an issue:
Though the Error came in German (cause the game in German - anyway, I am a German guy ^^)

How to load an ISO as a “CD” to satisfy “insert CD” prompt?
I am trying to run my own legal copy of Propellerhead (http://www.propellerheads.se/) Reason 2.5 through Wine on latest Ubuntu on Asus (http://www.asus.com/) netbook, which has no optical drive. When the application starts, it asks me to ?Please insert the CD?, which I thought I knew how to do because after all, I had to mount the one of the three ISOs to start the installation.

How to set Volume Label on mounted ISO image?
This is driving me nuts. I'm trying to run an older game that checks the Volume Label of the CD to make sure it is legit. I don't wish to carry the CD around with me all the time, and my laptops CD-ROM drive doesn't always work that reliably, so I'm trying to use an ISO image.
I mount the file using this command in Ubuntu 8.10:
sudo mount discimage.iso mount_dir -o loop

Games freeze with CD music
So it looks like Wine is doing a good job of emulating Windows. It's so good that I'm having the same problem with old games as I was under WinXP. If I play a game with CD audio tracks, it freezes for a few seconds every time the track changes. Under Windows, I used to apply the IgnoreMCIStop fix from the Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit to fix the problem. Does Wine have

more boxplot questions
Hello,
I have a couple more questions about boxplots. In the books I've read on
statistics (I'm not a statistics expert but just a poor engineer trying
to help his wife with the analysis of the data she gathered for her
medieval history PhD), I seen two kinds of box plots: one using
quartiles to determine the height of the rectangles and whiskers which
is what the standard R boxplot does,

translation from the old-S
In ancient times, circa 1980, S data directories were called swork and sdata
not .Data, and "New-S" as described in the already medieval "Blue Book"
discusses a function DBCONVERT that converted swork data into .Data data.
It is embarrassing to admit it, but I still have data archives from a BTL
machine called alice in the swork format and would like to convert a dataset
