Re: Call for volunteers
Austin - another quick question: I've tested a few bugs using the latest compiled fresh from git (wine-1.1.23-273-gc293285) but then began wondering if I should be using the latest beta instead - 1.1.23? I'm also confused if I'm doing something wrong because I tried to install directx 9.0c to test dxdiag and after extracting I ran wine dxsetup.exe. That failed with these errors and

How can we improve WNE?
Hello everybody. I'm a (quite) happy WINE user, but i would like to propose some things to the WINE developers. Something important imo, is that it must be easy to use for the user, and some things could be better, here are some ideas to improve it by using Winecfg: 1. Add an option to disable/enable/edit debug channels for all programs. As you may know, a lot of programs runs faster

little fighter 2 vdragonballz 3.0 mod crashes on load sprite
I was trying to run one of my kids favourite games with Wine, alas it crashes accessing a null pointer, early on while loading one of the sprite files (not corrupted). I guess the program should be doing better memory checking but since this works on Windows, maybe Wine has fed him before some broken data. Unfortunately, the terminal output doesn't seem much helpful:

Missing Text in Wine 1.1.12
Hello, I am running a fully updated Intrepid Ibex 8.10 on my desktop. I installed Wine from the repositories using Code: sudo apt-get install wine Wine 1.1.12 is downloaded & installed correctly but none of the menus or buttons have any text in them. Clicking on any button flashes the text on it. Everything else is replaced by _ . Here are a couple of screenshots : [Image:

Clarification of ratings...
I was browsing apps and looking for games that run in Wine as Gold or better. The issue is that I see many apps listed as gold that require recompiling Wine with patches to get them to work. From my understanding, any application that requires code changes should be listed as garbage and tied to a patch/bug to be able to operate. That and any application that ranks higher should run under a

Fable breaks from wine 1.1.10 to 1.1.11
Hi, I guess I should open a bug in bugzilla. Some questions: I installed 1.1.10 and 1.1.11 through PlayOnLinux. Does this make a difference for the bug reporting? I have the output from the terminal (backtrace below). What could I do to provide more useful information? I suppose the next step would be to do a bisect but I've never done it and I suspect I'll need quite a bit of time.

How to get 1.0.1
I'm new in Linux (Ubuntu 8.04) and pre-new in Wine. Apprently 1.0.1 is the latest stable release, but I can't find a way to get it by following any of the links on the WineHQ pages. I always end up at a page that's warning me I'll be downloading a beta version, even though I've clicked on a link that promises 1.0.1 All help welcome, but please don't point me to a tar.gz -

Call for volunteers
Howdy Wine users! The list of bugs with downloads that haven't been checked on in a while has gotten pretty long (1,359! as of May 6, 2009). If you're a moderate to advanced user of wine, please help by downloading and testing these applications and testing these bugs. Be sure you're using a recent version of wine (1.1.20 or git) and testing in a clean WINEPREFIX. Quick guide: 1)

Bugzilla comment
too many UNCO bugs are listed for wine < 1.0 . I suggest purging or archiving the really old ones since they must have been fixed or no-one cares for them atm. Either way they're too confusing!

debian squeeze i386 test package available
Howdy, I'm working on reviving the debian packages. I haven't done debian packaging in a while, so I've put an alpha build of 1.3.8 on http://www.austinenglish.com/blah. Currently only squeeze/i386, but if these work well, and there is interest, I can do the other releases/64-bit versions. Please let me know if they do/don't work for you, or any other feedback. Cheers, Austin

Attention Non-Linux Wine Users
Howdy BSD/Solaris/OS X'ers, A lot of progress has been made fixing the conformance tests for Wine, but unfortunately, most of this progress has only been made on the Linux end. Most developers are using some form of Linux, so BSD/Solaris/OS X haven't seen their pass rate increase. But you can help! For more info, see: http://wiki.winehq.org/ConformanceTests But for the short version: 1.

Problems with Pass4Sure's Network+ Demo
All: My employer has required me to pass a computer security certification exam. The folks at Pass4Sure have what I consider the best program. However, it does not want to play nice under Wine. I installed the Demo version of the Network+ test program. It is a native Windows Java application. It wanted to install GDIPLUS and msxml6. I used Winetricks to install them and then tried to run
