Include Exclude .. a canonical way
I'm wrestling with include/exclude rules and not finding a way to do
this:
Simplified command: rsync -avv --exclcude-from=rsync_exclude \
~/ /dest/
Backup ~/ including ~/.kde3.5/share/apps/konqueror/bookmarks.xml
but excluding everything else under ~/.kde3.5
Here are some of what hasn't worked in an EXCLUDE file.
+ /.kde3.5/share/apps/konqueror/bookmarks.xml

Threading performance
Hi all,
I was just playing around with the Video Stress Test in CounterStrike:
Source, and noted a lot of odd stuttering. The demo would run for about
15 seconds at 13fps, then completely freeze up for about 15 seconds.
Then, it would start running again... only to freeze/unfreeze every 15
seconds or so.
Just for fun, I reniced all the wine processes down to +15. The result:
the demo runs

Looking for HowTo Postifx, Dovecot and PostgreSQL
Hi folks,
I know it's a bit a n00bish question, but I'm a little confused about
this many different ways on setting up dovecot with postfix and using a
PostgreSQL backend for virtual hosts. I've found this one quiet helpful:
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/DovecotPostgresql
even it seems to be little outdated for recent versions of dovecot (the
auth part of dovecot.conf). Also its

[RFC] Are patches sitting too long in the tracker - PatchRails to the rescue?
Hi, List,
I read the ''this is why ror sucks'' - thread with some amusement. I''m
pretty delighted by rails and would like to thank the community and
especially the core developers for being great. I''m a little afraid that
the last post to this thread hasn''t got the attention that it deserves
and therefore I''d like to link it here again and

MS-Office 2003 crashes when loading documents
I've had a problem with opening existing documents for some time now, but attributed the problem to the number of upgrades my computer has been through. However last week I installed a copy of Ubuntu Maverick and KDE3.5 on a freshly-wiped machine, and I'm still having the same problems. Hopefully someone can help? I have a laptop running ubuntu karmic, and Office 2003 runs fine from

3D rendering errors
'ello, I've looked all over the place for people with similar problems, but it seems i can't figure out how to discribe what is going on well enough to find any. Here are some screenshots of what i'm experiencing in the game Perfect World International.

Interactive stereoscopic 3d rendering with RGL plot3d?
Dear R Users,
i' wondering, if there is any possibility to render interactive stereoscopic 3d plots in R and use the
functionality of those new 3d displays (e.g. with poarisation technology) like this one:

Does anyone know if there are developments toward this feature? Or perhaps someone
know how to implement such a

3D-scatterplots - high quality rendering?
I have just started using the package 'rgl' to explore my data as a 3D
scatterplot.
It's a great tool. But I would like to be able to save some graph
views and it appears the only format available is 'png' and it doesn't
look that nice. It is excellent to work with on screen and
explore/play, but when it comes to producing a good quality graphic

New Winecfg crash
I updated my copy of WINE CVS today, and now if I click the audio tab in
Winecfg, I'm getting this on my Mandrake 2006 machine.
*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x7c0a6cd0 ***
wine: Assertion failed at address 0xffffe410 (thread 0009), starting

This happens everytime I run winecfg and click the audio tab. Clicking
the other tabs works fine.

ACPI reboot-issue (CentOS 4)
Hi all,
I'm trying to troubleshoot my way thru a ACPI-issue on several machines
with the Asus P5N32-E SLI motherboard (S775, Nvidia 680i chipset)

This is CentOS 4 x86_64, and appears on all tested kernels, including

My symptoms are that the machine won't

importing csv gets me all 16,000 columns with "NA"
I'm new to R. I have a mac (OS10.6). I have converted an Excel file to a csv
to import into R. I have used many methods to import the file, most do not
work, the best so far is:
filename <- read.csv(/Users/Desktop/csvfile.csv", header=T, sep=","). I have
also tried taking out the header and sep lines and it still imports fine.
Regardless of what I do, it always brings in

Full guide: How to Crack DRM Video
Why isn't it possible to simply unregister users who send spam like
this? If it's not a bot and is a registered user, shouldn't there be
some consequence to posting spam? Recognizing that the idiot could
re-register with another name and manually post more of this again, it
seems like "we" should be making it more difficult for him/her to
continually pollute the list.

Rendering of Files Speed Versus Rendering from Databases
I came across a blog entry about how session stores are much faster
when using a database versus flat files (pstore). And I must say that
even with SQLite I notice a huge difference after switching.
What I was wondering is if people have found rendering .liquid
templates out from the database is actually faster than from a file on
the filesystem.
And if this is the case, what is the cause of the

League of Legends - Beta in Wine
I just got into the League of Legends beta and I know it's asking for a lot to get a game in it's beta working but I cannot get past the installation because it errors out when it tries to install AdobeAIR. I have installed AdobeAIR to be native but because it is part of the installer it will keep erroring me.
It creates a folder and I've tried running the updater after killing the
