The pros and cons of a wiki AppDB
2009/3/7 Rosanne DiMesio <dimesio at earthlink.net>: > I can think of one possible benefit. There are a lot of apps without maintainers, and there might be users of those apps who would be willing take a few minutes to post bits of useful information in a wiki, but don't want the responsibility of being a maintainer. Sure, they could just post info in a comment, but user comments are

R-alpha: ISO-latin-1 characters in strings -- print.default & PARSE(?) problems
There seems to be a problem in print.default with some ISO-latin1 characters (the chars AFTER ASCII in western Europe...) if they appear in strings. (no problem if they are part of a function comment, see below). Some of the characters lead to 4 character Hex-codes being printed instead: "û" ## ^u prints as "0xFB" If you use the funny characters in comments of functions,

special chars in windows filenames
Hi folks! I upgraded a red hat linux fileserver (kernel version 2.4.18-14) from samba 2.x to samba 3.02. After the upgrade, the special chars in windows filenames (German Umlaute) were no more visible to clients but either substituted with a little black rectangle or completely suppressed - depending on the client operating system (W2000/W98). Within the archived list I found a hint that the

Comment fields don't like accents!
Anyone know, under Linux, how to get accents (hoping for u with an umlaut, for example) into a comment field? They're happily in the comment file I'm using as a source (or on the command line), but they get translated into # either when I do vorbiscomment -a or vorbiscomment -l (not sure which, but XMMS also sees # instead of the right char, which implies the first). title=Die Sch#ne

Problem registering to the AppDB
Hi, for some reason I can't register to the AppDB with my email. When I press the "Create Account" button at the bottom of the form, I only get a page with the AppDB logo and the CodeWeavers ad. No message or email that the registration succeeded, no error message. :( When trying to browse the AppDB again, I only get a white page until I delete the AppDB cookie. This happens on both

Wine 1.00 the AppDB and State of the Winehq website.
In looking forward to the release of wine 1.0 I have a question about "Browse Applications by Rating" http://appdb.winehq.org/browse_by_rating.php When adding test data you can only add reports on what looks like the last 6 releases? Eg wine versions 0.956 / 0.957 /0.958 /0.959 /0.960 /0.961 Do these stat's on "Browse Applications by Rating" report this? If not what does

AppDB instructions
Hey Gang, I'm new here so I get to as a few dumb questions without feeling too dumb about it... Several posts have been kind enough to include links to the AppDB pages, which I have been using, but I don't find there the instructions people allude to. All I find in AppDB pages is lists and rankings and images and basically a report of how well it works and less about how to make it

Unable to search AppDB for Windchaser
Hello, I don't find "windchaser" in the AppDB search but it's online when I search in "browse AppDB". Windchaser is one of the keywords I've set but why I can't find it there. btw. I'm a super maintainer of this App and this is my first maintaining. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=8560 What did I do wrong? Many

WANTED (dead or alive): additional AppDB maintainer
Hi all, as I'm currently in my studies duties again and the AppDB submissions are piling up enormously (> 20 new entries in less than two weeks), I'm looking for one or two additional AppDB maintainers to do the Beowulf thingy ;-) (I'm talking about http://appdb.winehq.org, here) The job description can be found at http://www.winehq.org/about/index.php?contrib#active Sadly enough,

Website: appdb feedback for older versions of wine?
Hi, I have Ubuntu Hardy, which is a LTS (long term support) release. This means it'll be supported for a while. But it also means that there's a base of users of an older version of Wine that will want to try out programs but will want to see how an app performs against the Wine version they're using. To that end, I'd love to contribute to the Wine appdb, but the appdb

AppDB video card data
There is a lot of useful information in the AppDB but one thing I miss is video card data, this especially important for games. The rumor goes that wine works better with Nvidia cards, I don't know if there's any statistical data to back that up. Might be that the number of bug reports give an indication. But if a game works without problems you wouldn't find a bug report. Adding

Sourcing files with Umlaut in path no longer works
Dear helpeRs, on my new machine - Windows 7 64Bit, R 2.15-2, I can no longer source files for which the path contains the o-Umlaut (?). As a historical burden, my username is Gr?mping and contains that Umlaut (I wouldn't have chosen it now, but decided to keep it for easy transfer). I have had the difficulty that I couldn't use the R CMD tools on files with Umlauts in the path (and

AppDB Voting System Wierdness
Hi, I'm a newbie. I was looking at the AppDB and I think the voting is a great idea to prioritise what people want and will use. However, I was looking at my favorite game that I want to get fully working on wine - "Company of Heroes (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4506)". I can't understand why there isn't a global voting for this like

unicode&pdf font problem RESOLVED
Just to add to this (I've been looking through the archive) problem with display unicode fonts in pdf document in R If you can use the Cairo package to create pdf on Mac, it seems quite happy with pushing unicode characters through (probably still font family dependant whether it will display) probstring <- c(' \u2264 0.2',' \u2268 0.4',' \u00FC 0.6',' \u2264

Is AppDB broken?
I have been trying for four days now to use AppDB. When I tried the first time to create an account using my email address, I was told to wait for an email with my password in it. I'm still waiting now four days later. If I try to create a new account (using the old email) I am told "another account is using the email address". Well, that's probably mine so why won't I

Random software that no one has, and is not in the appdb.
I have a bunch of children's games and other random software that came in cereal boxes :). Obviously 80% of these programs aren't even in the appdb, and half of them don't work for one reason or another. For the symptoms that each show when being run under wine; what can I search for to see if it's a known bug (tm) or has a workaround or if I can just expect them to hit the
