alsa not available in winecfg under karmic?
I upgraded to karmic yesterday, and ran winecfg.
The list of possible sound systems has shrunk to three: oss, jack and eSound.
I tried running winecfg plain, and with padsp and pasuspender prefixes.

Alsa audio -- FYI update
Alsa audio started working a couple of days ago with wine and then stopped working yesterday.
Here is my experience.
Pulseaudio cannot be removed any more. So I reinstalled the system and left it there.
I compiled wine git and installed, and then installed DNS 10.
Then I re-booted, ran killall pulseaudio in terminal, and started the program with winecfg's sound set to alsa.

ALSA Sound Regression
Greetings,
I've used wine for several years now, but I've never really gotten involved with development so I'm not sure how or even where this would need to go.
I've found a regression in the latest (as of 1-1-09) git of wine; alsa sound doesn't appear to work. It did work from a version of wine I had cloned from git about a week earlier. It also works fine in 1.1.11 release.

lotro - no sound or options alsa/wine 1.3.27
Pre wine version 1.2.26 sound worked fine in lotro and the in game audio
options page showed the sound card in a dropdown box and titles for all
of the sound option slide bars.
In 1.3.26 and now 1.3.27 there is no sound in game and the audio options
window does not show any sound card or titles for the sound options or
various volume slider bars and all of the bars are set at minimum. The

How to compile WINE with ALSA support
Hi everyone.
I recently had to compile WINE myself. It took some time to figure out how to do it but in the end I was successful. The problem is that now I only have OSS support. ALSA (was pulseaudio there, too?) is/are gone from the "Audio" tab in winecfg.
How do I compile WINE with ALSA support? Where can I find more info on how to do this?
Thank you. :)

Why not pulseaudio?
Pulseaudio works great in wine using the modified wine from the Neill Aldur ppa. Tried everything else (padsp, pasuspender, blah) and nothing would work reliably. Some crashes when another application outputs sound, sometimes the sound does not work at all, sometimes it is awfully slow or with latency varying while recording, leading to unpredictable offsets in recorded files.

Alsa: underrun occured
I've seen a couple topics that deal with this error, but they're all really old and they didn't help, so I'll just create this.
I'm trying to get audio to work. I just installed Ubuntu 10.04. Sound works for everything but wine. I open winecfg to test the sound, but get nothing and along with this in the terminal:
Code:
err:alsa:wine_snd_pcm_recover underrun occurred

Alternative to PulseAudio
I'm trying to run ableton live, but the program won't boot up unless pulseaudio driver is unchecked through winecfg. What can I do about installing maybe a usb audio driver for my audiogram 3? Can I get a different driver for wine? This is ableton live we are talking about, and I haven't gotten any sound out of it yet.

pulseaudio/wine question
When people have audio trouble with programs in wine the first
suggestion is always to remove pulseaudio, I'm not questing that - it
often fixes the problem, but I do wonder if there are plans to make wine
and pulseaudio work better together?
Each new version of the major Linux distros seems to make pulse harder
and harder to remove without messing up the system. Outside of wine
pulse is

No MIDI devices in wine
I'd want to run the windows editor for my guitar preamp (VOX Tonelab SE)
which is connected to the MIDI in and out sockets of my soundcard. The
program installs and starts without any problems under wine but it can't
find any MIDI ports.
MIDI works fine otherwise in Linux - I can read from and write to the
sockets with arecordmidi and aplaymidi, but there are no MIDI devices

Unable to use alsa, unusable driver for winecfg
Got a problem with wine.
I compiled the 1.1.24 version and a lot of things work very fine. But I can't use the Alsa driver output.
When launching winecfg and selecting the Audio tab, a dialog box tell me that the driver "alsa" is present in the registry but unusable and asks me to remove it from the registry.
I don't know why the alsa driver is unusable. I have the correct

Wine 1.3.25 kills sound with PulseAudio
In version 1.3.24 and previous versions, sound was hit-and-miss on my system unless I had ESD enabled. Now that ESD has been removed, so has any reliable sound.
When using the ALSA driver, some sounds work for a while, after which all sound completely stops. Enabling ESD and using the PulseAudio eSound plugin made all sounds work perfectly. That is now gone with version 1.3.25, and sound is now

No sound with alsa and Nvidia HDMI
Hi,
I cannot get wine to recognize my audio device (Nvidia GT210 w/HDMI).
No other sound card is enabled. The right device for sound is hw:0,3. Alsa's speakertest works fine. Pulseaudio is completely removed from my system. Also Wine's pulse package is removed even though the trace still has some references to pulseaudio.
Winecfg displays only MIDI devices under ALSA. Direct Sound options

Pulse audo in 1.3.25+
So I used to use the winepulse patch for wine. (Yes I like pulse). But
since 1.3.25+ uses mmdevapi for audio, that patch no longer works. That
author points to a wine multimedia git, however, after installing that I
have no more sound in any wine application, and the winecfg test audio says
audio failed. How do I get this new sound server working in wine?

No Sound in Wine - disable / remove pulseaudio
Wine requires direct access to sound device(s) to make sound. This is true for both ALSA and OSS driver back-ends. However most sound servers are not compatible with neither of these back-ends. This also true about pulse-audio - it is not fully compatible with Wine.
If you using new distro (Fedora 8, Ubuntu 8.04, SuSE 11) and do not have sound you should:
1. Report problem to your distro support

Weired Sound Issues on Opensuse 11.1 and ALSA (Wine 1.1.26)
Hello Everybody
I got some little issues with the sound. Logged in as my normal user - I've the testsound (winecfg) on the internal device. I can't change it.
If I log in as root I've the testsound on my external USB speakers (the way I would prefer it works).
I can't Imagine me - why there is a different between root and my normal user.
Please find below some details.

No sound using OSS in Steam games
Whenever I change the sound driver from ALSA to OSS in winecfg all of my steam games are muted. Some of the games doesn't even start, some of them start but are totally silent with OSS.
I installed a couple of non-steam games into the same wineprefix, interestingly they can use both sound systems. So this issue is applied only to steam games.
If I apply the WINEDEBUG=+dsound parameter when

Im using a usb headset and when I checked the win alsa driver i saw for the wave in the there was AD198x Analog and usb Audio.
