How do I get WINE to see a mounted disc image as a CD?
I prefer to run games that require CDs from image files, since it is faster and protects the life of my CDs. In windows, I would just mount the disc image and I could then play. But using Wine and Ubuntu, it appears to work differently. When installing a Windows CD using WINE under Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit, how should I go about mounting a disc image so it is seen by games running under WINE as a CD?

PXE Booting floppy image
Anyone know the correct syntax for specifying a floppy image in the /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default file? I am trying to use: label Dos Bootdisk MENU LABEL Dos bootdisk FDIMAGE discimage.img But when I select it the menu, I get a message saying "Automatic boot in 30 seconds" and nothing happens. I would use: label Dos Bootdisk 2 MENU LABEL Dos bootdisk 2

Mounting an ISO or FS Location as a CDROM in WINE...
Is it possible to mount either an ISO Archive file, or a location within my File System, as a CDROM which WINE can use as such? If so, then how can I do that?

How to load an ISO as a “CD” to satisfy “insert CD” prompt?
I am trying to run my own legal copy of Propellerhead (http://www.propellerheads.se/) Reason 2.5 through Wine on latest Ubuntu on Asus (http://www.asus.com/) netbook, which has no optical drive. When the application starts, it asks me to ?Please insert the CD?, which I thought I knew how to do because after all, I had to mount the one of the three ISOs to start the installation. I run this

[PATCH] dib: rework run of extra-data.d hooks (RHBZ#1362354)
Instead of running them before lanching the appliance with the disks and then uploading the result after root.d hooks run, mount the root in the local temporary directory using FUSE and then run the hooks on the guest. Other than being closer to what diskimage-builder does, it also avoids issues with the extra-data.d scripts assuming to find things already, and we don't error out while trying

Running games from the ISO
Hi. I've downloaded the original Red Alert Command & Conquer from the company's website -- they're being very generous and giving the old game away for free, presumably to try to drum up sales for the new RA game (which does look very good). The download consists of two ISOs; one for the Allied missions and one for the Soviets, which I've burnt to disc, and the game plays

Running from a disk image
I am trying to install my copy of Medieval II total war from the disk image. The initial setup works fine but halfway through the install it asks for me to insert the next disk containing a file. The second disk is mounted and i designate the path to the appropriate file, but i get an error saying "setup could not find a file on the specified path or disk Please check that the proper disk is

UNZ FM TOWNS Emulator not reading discs
Hello all, I've got Unz (FM Towns emulator) running under wine but its not capable of reading the original FM Towns CDROM images on my Mac. I have it working under Windows XP using Daemon Tools to mount the ISO but under OSX it does not work. I have the ISO mounted under finder and have pointed my wine configuration to the mount point. No luck. Has anyone successfully got this running under

Games freeze with CD music
So it looks like Wine is doing a good job of emulating Windows. It's so good that I'm having the same problem with old games as I was under WinXP. If I play a game with CD audio tracks, it freezes for a few seconds every time the track changes. Under Windows, I used to apply the IgnoreMCIStop fix from the Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit to fix the problem. Does Wine have

Krb5 + Samba auth problem on subsequent volume mounts
Hi all, I have, what I think is a relatively simple samba/kerberos problem that I am not seeing the obvious side to. I'll explain the scenario. I have an OpenLDAP KDC or Directory Master. For the purposes of this conversation, it is the authentication server, and the bit that grants/ hands out all the ticket information. I have a Solaris 10 system running the default Sun shipped Samba

[PATCH 3/3] dib: rename "aux" to "in_target.aux"
Sadly, there are elements (hello "gentoo"!) that, during the cleanup.d phase, wipe out almost everything in the /tmp of the guest, including the /tmp/aux where virt-dib mounts the auxiliary data. Since that removal excludes things starting with "in_target" (mostly to avoid wiping the "in_target.d" that disk-image-create itself sets up, then rename our "aux"

[LLVMdev] Inconsistent label syntax in LLVM assembly
Hi all, i'm writing a TXL (http://www.txl.ca) grammar and a revamp of bison/flex grammar for LLVM. I've noticed an inconsistency regarding label naming conventions. For instance, the following is a segment of legit LLVM assembly (human-readable) IR: br i1 %38, label %17, label %39 ; <label>:39 ; preds = %._crit_edge ret void

Disk drive question
I am new to Wine--I tried it about 7 or 8 years ago, with no luck whatever, and now for the first time I'm trying it again. I am amazed at how well it works! I have installed 2 windows programs, DraftSight and GcmWin. The first is a CAD program and the second produces a Great Circle Map centered on your input coordinates. I would like to try and install an old AutoCad, but I'm

sync prob with big files
Hi list. We have 2 NAS-Devices, each mounted on the same (virtual) box. For our backup we use bacula. Bacula ist writing its files to the first NAS (192.168.1.9). These are big files, up to 160 GB. For implementing a good backup strategy we decided to mirror (sync) another NAS-Device (192.168.1.8) to have redundant bacula backups. If sync is done the Device will be kept at another location too.

SAMBA with mounted ISO images
Hey all, I'm using Samba to share *mounted* ISO images w/ windows workstations. In other words, I create a share w/ default write access. Then, I create a several folders. Some are for files, while others are read-only and used for mount points for iso9660 ISO image files (so the user sees the contents of the iso files, not the file itself). I can mount and share the ISO file contents

ISO as CDROM
I have a laptop that has no CDROM, so I have to use an ISO. Anyway, I use to be able to mount the ISO at /media/cdrom and wine would recognize it as a cdrom. Now, when I try the same thing it doesn't recognize it as a cdrom. I have added /media/cdrom as a cdrom in winecfg, but still no luck. Can someone help me out, because this is the only thing preventing me from using my program (damn DRM).

PyGRUB booting a ISO image...
People, Can I use PyGRUB to boot an ISO image (with vmlinuz plus Xen guest support builtin) and start installation inside a PVM Domain?! I think I can boot ubuntu-8.10-server-XXX.iso directly in a PVM domain but, how?
