Red Alert / Red Alert II / Tiberium Sun: Overriding wsock32.dll to avoid IPX
Background: Red Alert / Red Alert II / C&C / Tiberium Sun uses IPX for LAN play. According to AppDB, this works, at least for Red Alert II (Orginal RA is not on the first page of Google results...), but it requires Wine to be run as root. Since I do not have IPX installed and I'm not normally in a mood to recompile my kernel, and the Windows users that I want to play against do want to

Re: Red Alert / Red Alert II / Tiberium Sun: Overriding wsock32.
When I worked on Wine's ipx code for Red Alert and friends posix file capabilities weren't around yet. I haven't used them yet. You can find info about it on http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/library/l-posixcap.html I think that you need to set the property on wineserver.

Network play in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
Hello, I have installed C&C: Red Alert 2 in Ubuntu. Now I want to play in a network. I have already put the wsock32.dll [1] into the game directory and have set up an overwrite rule for wsock32 in winecfg. It should replace the IPX protocol with UDP protocol. Now there is a network card shown in the settings [2] and the network menu opens ingame now. I have set up Red Alert 2 on different

How to install C&C: Tiberium Dawn in Ubuntu Karmic
Hi, I am currently using a hp mini, and my wine version is 1.0.0. I am trying to install Command and Conquer: Tiberium Dawn from the official website, and run it on ubuntu karmic using wine. When I tried it last night, I ran into the installation error: "Unable to locate necessary files. Please run setup.exe from the CD-ROM disc". Apparently others have run into this error, as it is

Sound problems with C&C 3 Tiberium Wars
Hello, I maintain Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars in the AppDB. While the sound seems to work fine for many users (including me), some are reporting extreme slowness if sound is enabled. At least one of those with problems is using an Intel 82801 chip. I've tested that on 2.6.16 and 2.6.22 kernels and no matter what I do the sound plays fine, even with HPET and RTC disabled.

IPX and AMD64 not mixing?
I've searched the forums for AMD64 and IPX but couldn't find a solution here. I am running Debian Lenny 2.6.26-1-amd64 on an AMD Turion 64x2 1.60GHz system with 1GB of RAM. I have Wine running and it runs my older games just fine (this is a laptop with an ATI1100M so no new games here!) but it doesn't seem to work with IPX. I installed the IPX tools package and ran the commands

WinSock & Wsock32
I am struggling with the simplest thing, I think! I am starting with a fresh config file from the 20020605 wine distro and trying to get the ARS Remedy User win32 based software running. Part way through the install it tell me I need to install "Winsock 2". By this I am assuming it is looking for the 32-bit winsock Dll's, wsock32.dll * ws2_32.dll. I have tried many variations of

Win95 and wsock32.dll...
Hi, everyone! Can someone tell me why after configuring our Win95 clients as Samba clients (using tcp/ip and Microsoft Network) all browsers as well as ftp complain that there is no socket connection or that wsock32.dll is not available? Samba as well as email works fine and I did not have this problem with Win98 clients. The clients I am talking about use older versions of Win95. Earlier

dmapi doesn't work on aix; possible fix included
I'm running samba 3.0.23c on aix 5.3 TL4. I'm using Tivoli HSM 5.3.4.0 on a JFS2 filesystem. Samba compiled fine, and I set "dmapi support = yes" in smb.conf, but samba wouldn't recognize offline files ("migrated files" in tsm terminology). After setting a higher log level I think I've tracked down the problem. The patch is at the bottom of this email.

Logging into a remote domain???
Hi - I'll be the first to say I don't completely understand Windows networking, but I did get the following to work when everybody (clients-w95/server-solaris) were on the same subnet. W95 boots up and prompts for username, password, and domain. I log in, and presto I'm connected and netlogon scripts run and everything is great. This is when I'm testing it on a completely

Replace only Capital Letters
Dear All, I have these data: exampledata <- c("This is one item", "This is Another One", "And so is This") I would like to find each occurence of a blank space followed by a Capital Letter and replace it by a blank space, a left curly brace, the respective Capital Letter, and then a right curly brace. Samba over IPX
I would like to add my case for a wish of IPX support in Samba: We use a number of CNC tool machines whose host is pure DOS based. Don't be surprised that DOS is stilll running somewhere. It is fairly OK when we get to the field of HW and real-time control, unlike Windows and the like... These hosts use IPX to access LAN shares. IPX is here preferable to TCP/IP because of its lower memory

IPX support in Starcraft - Why can't I get it working?
I can't seem to get IPX going in Starcraft. It gives me "Unable to initialize network provider" in a pretty dialog box (as per usual). I have IPX in kernel, the interface configured for 802.2 frame type, and some IPX RIP/SAP daemon going. The kernel's IPX is configured without the "Full internal IPX network" thing. Apparently (from my reading) this would be a bad

Can I Classify Non-IP Traffic?
Background: Thanks to the LARTC howto, this list and Stef Coene''s and devik''s excellent web sites I now have an ethernet bridge (patch bridge-nf.0.0.7) happily prioritising traffic (12Mbit) into 10 queues (9 for IP and 1 for non-IP) using a combination of iptables (fwmark) and htb3 and sfq. Many thanks. At the moment I''m filtering all non-IP traffic by setting the
