Patching Wine 1.0-rc1 with 3dmark.diff
Hey guys,
I'm a new Ubuntu convert (installed through Wubi, and am blown away!)
I'd love to get wine working so I play games etc, but I've got a lot of learning to do when it comes to installing and getting things working.
So, I want to use the 1.0-rc1 version of wine, but CoD4 requires the 3dmark.diff patch.
This is what I think I need to be doing:

Launching Source engine games results in crash, small res
Well I'm able to get Steam running fine, however I've tried to play the following:
Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead
Counter-strike Source

When I try to launch Source based games the screen goes black and then it resizes the resolution to something like 1024x600.
I am able to get the Left 4 Dead intro movie to play with this script:

Can I play any Win7 game on Linux?
Hi, I am apprehensive about buying the Windows 7 for my new desktop PC ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ig_b41uOQCg ) and pay more than 100 euros for it. I don't have enough money before I get the student loans after New Year 2012, and I was wondering if I could get Linux somewhere today or before Christmas holidays.
Before I decide, tell me, can I play any Win7 game I like on Linux, by

How optimize games for AT/AMD Radeon Cards
I have an Imac AMD Radeon Card and an NVidia Card. Games like Medal of Honor Allied Assault and code of Honor French Legion (just a 2 of the alot) has specific issues comparing with nvidia cards. in those games nvidia cards run smoothly but ATI cards/AMD Radeon do work, but "stotter" when walking and turning at the same time. Playing the games with Nvidia has not that issue.

I can't install anything in WINE. What am I doing wrong?
Here is my setup:
Wine version 1.0.1
Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex x64
I have tried installing Call of Duty 4, since my friend has a copy and the app db says it works. However, during the installation, direct x fails to install. I downloaded direct x 9c and tried to install it, but it fails immediately.
I have tried different programs over a period of about 9 months, and nothing will work. Is

Games performance with wine
I've been using Linux Ubuntu for a few days, but I already love it :) However, when I'm running windows games under wine, I get less than 10fps, while under windows they work really fast. I have installed latest Nvidia drivers from ubuntu repositories and Direct X 9c under wine (yes, dxdiag works, and it passes all the tests). I have also seen on youtube, that many people don't have

Game fails to move past initial spash
So, Eve online typically has a splash screen, then it loads for a while
and re-loads the login screen. However, i'm running ubuntu 5.10 and
wine, and it shows the splash screen then it disappears with a black
box that doesn't go away.
Anyone seen anything like this in this game / other games? thanks

Problems running the game GUN from Neversoft.
Hello!
I have installed Wine 0.9.55 (pretty sure of that) on my Mandriva 2008.
I tried to install the game GUN from Neversoft. (It works fine on windows Vista). On the distribution it says that it is compatible on Windows 2000 and XP.
But when I try to install it it seems to work, but when I try to run it I get an error in a popup.
Right now I'm at office and do not exactly remember the

Trouble with directx games on wine-1.2 64 bit
Ever since the RCs and the release of 1.2, I have been having trouble with directx based games not working properly. They did work under wine-1.1.3x. The problems are: video very slow and jerky, about 1 fps, objects appearing as "tears" on the screen, missing some textures, and screen going blank during certain effects.
System: 64-bit kubuntu-10.04, dual NVIDIA 9800GT w/ 512 mb, plenty

Swarm (win95 game) leaving fragments
Hi all,
installed the old space shooter Swarm and it is running fine pleased to
say except artefacts of lasers and rockets that have been fired staying on
screen for up to another 6 seconds.
This is as you can imagine a bit irritating as they move with and stay on
the screen.

Problems running some games that used to work before
I used to play GTA3 with only a few minor niggles a while back and thought
I'd give it a try with the most recent version of wine. I decided to do a
full test, from installing to actually playing the game. The installation
went perfectly but when ever I start wine now I get this error:

Call of Duty 4: Corrupt fastfile only on Ubuntu?
Hello!
I was running Mandriva 3 weeks ago and I had installed Call of Duty 4, and
it worked (with version 1.1.6)
When Ubuntu Intrepid RC was out, I decided to install it over my Mandriva,
and I also installed wine version 1.1.6, but it didn't work as on Mandriva!
When launching multiplayer, CoD4 gives this error: Fastfile for zone
'code_post_gfx_mp' is corrupt or unreadable.

Games: Grand Theft Auto 2 / DirectX 6.1 support?
Hi all,
I've checked the archives and can't find anything regarding the above so
here goes:
Has anyone had any luck getting GTA2 or other games that require DirectX
6.1 support working under Wine so far? I used to keep a Win95 partition
on my machine specifically for this game, but recently my second disk
died and I need the space for my Linux installation.
Any help appreciated.

sure what do even do first thing. Any help would be appreciated!

Problems with Steam Games (possible others?)
Hello, I've tried a few Steam games, and played them for a bit, but I
have a few problems:
1) Because I run dual monitors, normal full screen games will not
work. Furthermore, full screen games with a virtual desktop go in a
800x600 window and will not resize, so I have to play the games in a
window in a virtual desktop. This is relatively minor and I can live
with it, but it anyone has a
