Ok for some reason all the newer wine versions have a broken D3D_Surface that prevents SimCity 3000 from even starting well here is the trick I did to get it to work for me. I used the Wine version 0.9.14 for Ubuntu instead of using the newer version and it works great. Although I had to download a few extra dependencies to get that version of wine to work. I am new to using wine and I'm still learning Linux so please be specific. I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 with the newest version of wine. When I installed Sim City 4 Deluxe I saved Disc 1 on my computer then put disc 2 in and installed the game. When I try to start it the Wine window comes up for a second then closes. I came across a problem after updating to 0.9.59 and it appears to have continued to 0.9.60. Hi! I'm trying to get the Win 95 game "Streets of SimCity" to run under Linux, and have come across an error message that I don't understand. Wondering if anyone can point me towards a possible cause! The game is 3D graphical, and I've just switched in the nVidia driver (previously, while using Nouveau, I got other errors such as that OpenGL was not installed properly).

In my tests of gmax, I downloaded and installed the Building Architect Tool (BAT) for SimCity 4 Deluxe along with the associated Plugin Editor and the Lot Editor. I must be missing something. SimCity4 insists on having the play disk in the CD drive and claims it can't see it.
