Wine with NPTL
Hello, I'm running Slackware 10.2 with kernel 2.4.31, and I'm trying to install Wine. I have glibc vers 2.3.5. Linux thread libraries are saved in the /lib directory, while NPTL libraries are saved in /lib/ tls. Other than the source I downloaded I have no other version of wine on my machine. I ran '.configure --with-nptl=/lib/tls' and everything seemed to compile properly,

Installing GLIBC for CentOS 4.6
I'd like to modify pthread library ( e.g. manipulating some functions ) in glibc, so I want to compile and install modified glibc. However, I failed to compile glibc and need some help. How can I fix the problem? Here is the process that I've tried. 1. download glibc-2.3.4.tar.tar from http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/glibc/ 2. unzip glibc-2.3.4.tar.tar 3. make build-folder [root at localhost /]#

A better fix for the /lib/tls problems
Further to the email below from a few weeks ago, I can announce that Xen/Linux 2.6 handles the TLS problem (-ve accesses into segments) by dynamically rewriting the offending instructions. This is enabled by default in the 2.6 kernels, and reduces the overhead of handling those instructions to almost zero (compared with around 100% overhead when using pure emulation in Xen, when running

Static linking against glibc
I'm building an RPM of a DNS server called NSD on CentOS 4.4. I'm going to be using it for some heavy-duty DNS traffic, so I want to minimise its dependencies on external libraries. I have therefore attempted to link it statically. The package does build, and even runs fine. However, during the build process, gcc emits warnings like these: nsd.o(.text+0xfba): In function `main':
