pulseaudio/wine question
When people have audio trouble with programs in wine the first
suggestion is always to remove pulseaudio, I'm not questing that - it
often fixes the problem, but I do wonder if there are plans to make wine
and pulseaudio work better together?
Each new version of the major Linux distros seems to make pulse harder
and harder to remove without messing up the system. Outside of wine

No Sound in Wine - disable / remove pulseaudio
Wine requires direct access to sound device(s) to make sound. This is true for both ALSA and OSS driver back-ends. However most sound servers are not compatible with neither of these back-ends. This also true about pulse-audio - it is not fully compatible with Wine.
If you using new distro (Fedora 8, Ubuntu 8.04, SuSE 11) and do not have sound you should:
1. Report problem to your distro support

Naturally speaking + Wine better, the audio not so good
NaturallySpeaking under wine is working remarkably well considering the amount
of complexity present in both systems.. When I use it, it's just smoother and
feels better than NaturallySpeaking under Windows. My undying gratitude is
extended to all of those that helped.
Here's what doesn't work so well. Audio. Specifically, vxi-b200 USB microphone
In order to use it, I need to turn off

Re: Wine and pulse audio
Using ALSA or OSS instead of PulseAudio is not actual at all. Its si much problems using ALSA and OSS with duplex sound thru wine and native linux-apllications.
And problems comes when trying to use things like mumble and playing a game with wine.
The pulseaudio-patch which was added for Wine versions up to 1.3.28 (not official i think), has been working just perfect.
I tried 1.3.34 which

Audio weirdness on CentOS 6.2 with flash?
Hi List,
I have an ASUS G73S laptop with our favorite OS installed and all
up-to-date.
Sound has always "just worked"
When I use the Preferences>Sound app I can setup the hardware, input,
output and was overall very impressed.
One can check each speaker and the laptop has a front left and right and
also has a bass speaker which seems to be connected to the left rear.
The various

FYI -- Just to let you know of potential sound problems
I have the latest version of Ubuntu Studio (Karmic) and just re-installed it today.
I use non-pulse applications, including Audacity and Dragon NaturallySpeaking running under wine. I have tried disabling pulseaudio every way I know how.
I am getting no sound, mostly due to what are described as timeout errors.
Ubuntu has been working to make it run with pulseaudio properly disabled, so that

pulseaudio wine
Hi. I can confirm that pulse does indeed work quite well with wine. I've been using oss emulation and padsp together for a long time now, and I've had very few if any problems with it.
I simply use
Code:
aoss padsp wine
whatever and it's fine. I don't know if I need to use padsp after aoss after reading this thread, but it's what I've been doing. So pulse does mostly

Pulse audo in 1.3.25+
So I used to use the winepulse patch for wine. (Yes I like pulse). But
since 1.3.25+ uses mmdevapi for audio, that patch no longer works. That
author points to a wine multimedia git, however, after installing that I
have no more sound in any wine application, and the winecfg test audio says
audio failed. How do I get this new sound server working in wine?

Why not pulseaudio?
Pulseaudio works great in wine using the modified wine from the Neill Aldur ppa. Tried everything else (padsp, pasuspender, blah) and nothing would work reliably. Some crashes when another application outputs sound, sometimes the sound does not work at all, sometimes it is awfully slow or with latency varying while recording, leading to unpredictable offsets in recorded files.
Using pulseaudio

No Audio Control Panel Implemented
After hours of searching, I give up and will ask for directions.
runing wine 1.1.27 on Ubuntu 9.04 on a T-23 Thinkpad using the onboard sound card and a Plantronics DSP-500 headset. After days of searching I finally got both to work, but limitation in Ubuntu will not allow both to work at the "same time". One or the other. Plantronics only works in a mixed mode ALSA and OSS

Wine 1.1.28 on Mandriva - PulseAudio? - Only get OSS option
Is there any way I can get PulseAudio working with Wine 1.1.28? I just compiled (first install on this OS) of Wine from the website, and I only had the choice of OSS as my driver. Surprisingly this made a test sound, but as I thought it does not work at the same time as Pulse. So how can I get Pulse, ESound, ALSA support for a compiled version of Wine on Mandriva 2009.1?

Wine USB sound is OSS only?
I have a USB soundcard that I have tried to run with Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
It doesn't work unless I set winecfg to oss instead of alsa.
Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong?
How do I get alsa over USB?
Thanks,
Susan Cragin

Pulse Audio "Motorboating" Audio with Asterisk
When I use pulse audio and Asterisk 11.4.0 on the Console/Dsp port
I get a motorboating sound or warble - or - just not clear audio.
When I switch that to ALSA direct it sounds just fine.
What might be happening with pulse audio that it does not
sound clear???

Foobar 2000 and Wine: terrible sound problem.
Hi, I am new here.
Ever since I use Ubuntu Linux I've used Wine. This worked nice until version 1.3.x; 1.3.7, I believe.
Now I cannot play music anymore with Foobar2000 and the new version of Wine. The problem is that the sound is very distorted every now and then and it even stops sometimes.
Initially I've done some tests with Pulse Audio disabled because according to some users that

Alsa audio -- FYI update
Alsa audio started working a couple of days ago with wine and then stopped working yesterday.
Here is my experience.
Pulseaudio cannot be removed any more. So I reinstalled the system and left it there.
I compiled wine git and installed, and then installed DNS 10.
Then I re-booted, ran killall pulseaudio in terminal, and started the program with winecfg's sound set to alsa.

lotro - no sound or options alsa/wine 1.3.27
Pre wine version 1.2.26 sound worked fine in lotro and the in game audio
options page showed the sound card in a dropdown box and titles for all
of the sound option slide bars.
In 1.3.26 and now 1.3.27 there is no sound in game and the audio options
window does not show any sound card or titles for the sound options or
various volume slider bars and all of the bars are set at minimum. The
