Re: Bug#181699: #181699 Re: #181699 wine: vague error message: "dramatically effect" in what way?
What really matters is not whether Wine has a Windows drive and
filesystem to sit on top of, but whether or not Wine can use native
Windows DLLs instead of its builtin ones. Some DLLs in Wine are so
perfect that they can be used in Windows - no benefit will be gained
from running an app that uses these natively. Some of Wine's DLLs are
buggy or incomplete - using stock native Windows ones

Updating Wine and using native DLLs
Hey, I just have the two questions from the subject.
I'd like to keep wine updated to latest version (even if not the stable), how can I do it?
Second, I would like to use the native DLLs from my windows copy, is there an instructive on how to replace wine's with those? I'd like to test if some games that do not work currently will work with native dlls.
Thank you in advance.

Using a native windows DLL in wine
Hi all.
As said in the subject, we wonder whether is possible to use some
native MS dlls (comctl32.dll, commctrl.dll)
in a wine installation, for commercial purpose.
And, if possible, what kind of restrictions are supposed to be applicated?
I'm sure I'm not the first asking such a thing...
Thx

Question about submitted a bug using native DLLs
Hello,
I'm trying to play a game (Star Wars: Rebellion) and it mostly works except for the tactical battle mode. There have been workarounds suggested on the appdb page (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=181&iTestingId=33818), which include getting a native d3drm.dll, which I did. This and one other native DLL (d3dxof.dll) reduced the number of errors and

problem with DivX9 and winetricks
HI
Trying to install Divx9 using winetricks. Using Ubuntu 8.10 and have cabextract installed, and my graphics card has it's driver installed (NVIDIA GEforce FX 5200).
Installation seems to go ok but does not re-start machine and there appear to be error messages in the terminal window, despite the fact that it says DivX is isntalled.
Testing results by trying to play Age of Empires II -

Confusion about Dll Overriding
the winecfg confused me about DLL overriding. In the 'libraries' tab,
if i specified a Dll file name and click 'Add', how does Wine know
where to load the native file when need? does it mean i also have to
copy the native file into the "c:\windows\system[32]" directory? if
so, why i have to bother with the winecfg, why not directlly copy
files into the

Using Wine with windows partition
So here, i looked a bit around the web on the subject and found:
- That using wine such way can be damaging to the partition and/or windows it self.
- That using original Windows DLLs can be quite helpful to some applications.
As you can see results were sided, it seemed successful to some.
My Idea was:
- Through fstab, make the partition automatically mounted on /media/winxp (already)
- Make a

coding for windows using wine
Hello all,
First , let me say that I am running wine without windows.
I am using a cross compiler to code a win32 app. I then run the app
using wine. I am wondering if I copy say -- mfc42.dll to my fake windows
system directory, is it possible to write mfc style code? I can get the
dlls-- I'm just wondering if I can use them under wine...

How to conver the windows registry to wine registries?
All,
This is a more difficult problem than it appears. I would like to convert
the Windows registry that already exists on my machine over to Wine's
registry, but I don't see how that is going to be done since Wine will
look at its own registry and NOT the reg files on my Windows partition.
Do I need to drag the Windows reg files (and what are their names?) to
the WIne partition on my

Wine won't load native DLLs
Hi all
I signed myself up as the appdb maintainer to TaxCalc about a year ago so I thought it about time I did something to try and get it to work.
I know it does not work 'out of the box' so I was trying to use a few DLL overrides to pin down which native Wine libraries were causing difficulties (and so I can give some guidance on appdb). I have addeed taxcalc.exe in wine configuration

How to find the correct native DLL?
Dear Wine-users!
As I have a Windows 2000 installation on my Linux system, too, I want to
make Wine use native Microsoft-DLLs where needed. But my problem is now
to determine, which native DLLs I should use! Is there a way to find
out of the error messages Wine dumps to the console which DLL contains
that code (so which one I need to replace by the native one)?
For instance, after

Wine on Windows
Hello,
I've been trying to compile Wine on Cygwin with the idea of running Windows apps through an X server. I've had mixed success.
Short story:
This is a picture of Wine's notepad.exe running on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and displayed on my Cygwin/X server. I tried to display it remotely - obviously it works. There are some major problems, but I do believe that somebody who knows

dpwsockx.dll does not appear in winecfg
Hello.
I'm trying to run Age of Kings multiplayer that seems to run fine for several other users.
I followed the instruction that says:
To get multiplayer working for such games (at least those that use a DirectPlay version prior to 8), place the DLLs in this archive in Wine's windows/system32 directory, then add DLL overrides (native, builtin) for: dplayx, dpnet, dpnhpast and dpwsockx.

Wine-20010824 problems with wineinstall and loading windows DLL's
Hi
I am running Slackware Linux 8.0 with Kernel 2.4.5 and perl 5.6.1. I

Trackmania NF 2.11.11 fails to start in Wine 1.1.28
I'm a new user of Ubuntu 9.04 and have installed Wine 1.1.28. Have not been able to get Trackmania Nations Forever 2.11.11 to start despite the AppDB indicating it should be fine.

Native, Builtin for Dummies
Yes I know this is stupid, but I do not understand the difference between Native and Builtin, in that
Native is the original Windows dll
Builtin is the Wine version
OK, but what is in the drive_C/windows/system32 folder? are these the Builtin dlls? or are they just stubs needed to fool the programs into thinking that the dll exists?
If they are just stubs and I want to use a Native dll for just

New to Wine, Install Problem
Wine Enthusiasts,
I'm new to Wine and am having a problem installing some software. I
didn't see the application in question in the Application Database.
I'm hoping the problem is something simple and that perhaps a Wine guru
on the list can point me in the right direction.
I don't have Windoze installed on any of my boxes. Unfortunately I now
find myself needing to run a
