IPX Issues
I followed the entire Starcraft/WinE HOWTO located at http://koti.mbnet.fi/~hoppq/sc-howto.html Starcraft now works just fine, except the Local Area (IPX) part doesn't work. My interface (eth0) is configured as follows: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:04:82:F7:A7 inet addr:192.168.1.2 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 IPX/Ethernet 802.3

More Starcraft IPX issues
Wine is : 20010216 Distro is : RH7 w/ all the latest patches Starcraft works beautifully (but only as root does DGA work :o( ), /except/: Running network games (which requires IPX) work perfectly, but only on LAN, i.e., on a setup w/ eth0 and lo, a network game will only work if ipx_interface add -p eth0 802.3 0x12345678 Under these conditions I can play, no problem. But, this doesn't

A question about Starcraft IPX
I don't know if I should be posting this here, and if this newsgroup is the incorrect one, could someone point me in the right direction? Just a question, I have SC working fine on my linux box with wine.. but when I go to play a LAN game with IPX ipx_interface add -p eth0 802.2 0A0A0A00:09 ipx_route add 0A0A0A00 0A0A0A00 0A0A0A09 it see's the game, but is "Unable to join

Red Alert / Red Alert II / Tiberium Sun: Overriding wsock32.dll to avoid IPX
Background: Red Alert / Red Alert II / C&C / Tiberium Sun uses IPX for LAN play. According to AppDB, this works, at least for Red Alert II (Orginal RA is not on the first page of Google results...), but it requires Wine to be run as root. Since I do not have IPX installed and I'm not normally in a mood to recompile my kernel, and the Windows users that I want to play against do want to

IPX support in Starcraft - Why can't I get it working?
I can't seem to get IPX going in Starcraft. It gives me "Unable to initialize network provider" in a pretty dialog box (as per usual). I have IPX in kernel, the interface configured for 802.2 frame type, and some IPX RIP/SAP daemon going. The kernel's IPX is configured without the "Full internal IPX network" thing. Apparently (from my reading) this would be a bad

IPX and AMD64 not mixing?
I've searched the forums for AMD64 and IPX but couldn't find a solution here. I am running Debian Lenny 2.6.26-1-amd64 on an AMD Turion 64x2 1.60GHz system with 1GB of RAM. I have Wine running and it runs my older games just fine (this is a laptop with an ATI1100M so no new games here!) but it doesn't seem to work with IPX. I installed the IPX tools package and ran the commands

Samba over IPX
I would like to add my case for a wish of IPX support in Samba: We use a number of CNC tool machines whose host is pure DOS based. Don't be surprised that DOS is stilll running somewhere. It is fairly OK when we get to the field of HW and real-time control, unlike Windows and the like... These hosts use IPX to access LAN shares. IPX is here preferable to TCP/IP because of its lower memory

IPX works via wired network, not via wireless
Hi All, I have installed Atomic Bomberman as described here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Atomic_bomberman When I connect 2 PC's running linux via networkcables and a switch, IPX works perfectly. I start the game on both PC's, set PC A to "Start Network game" via IPX, and PC B to "Join network game". Now PC B can see the game of PC A, connect to it, and then

LAN games no longer working in Starcraft
My nephew was home last night and I couldn't play Starcraft with him because selecting UDP or IPX LAN games no longer works. When they're selected, a message box appears saying: Unable to initialize network provider I had the same issue in 0.9.11, 0.9.12, 0.9.13. I was able to play multiplayer LAN games previously, but I'm unable to say what version I was using at that time. I first

Samba over IPX/NetBeui
Hello: Is it possible to run SAMBA over IPX/NetBeui? (I will thank any suggestion) I hava an small LAN of 3 computers, connected to the Internet through a Cable-modem with DHCP (the cablemodem and the computers are all connected to a hub). The CableModem assigns every computer a random public IP adress, but usually from diferent range (ie: 212.78.x.x, 62.57.x.x, etc), so I cannot get SAMBA or

Network booting DOS with IPX support
Hi all, I'm trying to work out how to boot DOS on a diskless PC, and I've come to a bit of a stumbling block with loading IPX support (which is extremely important, since most DOS games use IPX for network play ;-)) So far thanks to PXELinux and Memdisk I've gotten a DOS floppy image booting successfully, but I'm stuck trying to get IPX support. Admittedly I don't have much

Samba over IPX - various sites say it works?
Hi, I know this question was posted back in 2002/2003, just wondering if the answer has changed since then :) There are various sites which say its possible to run Samba using NetBIOS over IPX: http://samba.anu.edu.au/cifs/docs/what-is-smb.html http://nlug.org/mail/nlug__1999_05/0057.html I've tried everything I know to (which admittedly isn't much) and can't get it to work (I

A strong case for IPX support in Samba and smbfs
I would benefit from IPX support in both Samba and smbfs. I subscribe to Road Runner, a cablemodem service run by Time Warner Cable. The cablemodem hooks up to an ethernet hub. The ethernet hub is hooked to three computers. One of those computers runs Windows 98. The other two can dual boot between Windows 98 and Linux. TCP/IP works perfectly on all the computers, in both Win98 and Linux

Questions about IPX
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello everyone, I dug up a copy of Command & Conquer Gold the other day, and now I've been trying to get it running under Linux for nostalgic reasons ;-). The game itself runs fine, however, I'd be truly happy if I also had network play. Unfortunately, even though the most recent Wine (20040914) seems to contain some IPX code, the game

Netbios over more then one protocol
Hi, i'm reading: samba-3.0.20a/docs/htmldocs/Samba3-HOWTO/NetworkBrowsing.html#id2564441 ... The election process is /fought out, so to speak/ over every NetBIOS network interface. In the case of a Windows 9x/Me machine that has both TCP/IP and IPX installed and has NetBIOS enabled over both protocols, the election will be decided over both protocols. As often happens, if the Windows 9x/Me

[heads up] axing AppleTalk and IPX/SPX
Hello! [Cc to stable@, for wider audience] The plan is two axe two old networking protocols from FreeBSD head/, meaning that FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE, available in couple of years would be shipped without them. 1) AppleTalk Last time claimed to be supported by vendor in 2007[1]. In practice had very little use since 90th. Discontinued by major routing equipment vendors since 2009[2].
