Vista (pre-installed OEM editions) creating new files or folders on network shares
Hi, This post is to prevent other people that are having trouble with Vista clients from going down a blind alley investigating problems in their samba configurations. After some research I have found (see link below) that there is a general problem for pre-installed OEM editions of Vista Business (and possibly other vista versions) in creating files and folders on network shares. The problem

The Origins of R AND CALCULUS
An amusing afterthought : What is a rival software (ahem!) was planting this, hoping for a divide between S and R communities.or at the very minimum hoping for some amusement. an assumption or even a pretense of stealing credit is one of the easiest ways of sparking intellectual discord Most users of softwares don't really care about who gets credit ( Who wrote Windows Vista ,or Mac OS or

Hi, I have set up a pxelinux tftp boot server. It works great and is rock solid. I boot all management tools and OS installs from it. I have run in to a problem with Microsoft though... As corporations are slowly starting to adopt Vista, there are more limited ways available to deploy the OS. It is now necessary to install it from PE. I have found no way to successfully boot PE over PXE using

Samba and Vista profile probs
Yes, if you're using roaming profiles Vista will automatically accept your login (if your PDC is configured correctly, check the firewall on the clients and server also, write/read access to the profile for the current user, but i guess these things were already said here but I'm only replying to your last question without having read most of the rest) The profile is not needed to be

[LLVMdev] RFC: Drop support running LLVM on Windows XP
It sounds like there are no objections to jumping to Windows 7 as the baseline. Is it worth getting a note added to the next LLVM weekly to give the potential change a bit of a wider viewership before going ahead with it or are we in a position to just do this now? If so, what are the actual mechanics of the change, and who'd like to do it? Thanks! -Greg On 14 July 2015 at 06:55, NAKAMURA

Progress report on 64-bit builds under Windows
We have been asked for a couple of years about builds of R for 64-bit Windows, e.g. at UserR 2006. Users of 64-bit Windows still seem very thin on the ground, but apparently 'Microsoft scraps 32-bit operating systems Microsoft has announced that Windows Server 2008 will be the last 32-bit system it releases, for servers or clients, as it makes its way fully into the world of

Windows Vista roaming profiles "access denied" forced local profile (samba PDC), but Windows XP OK
Hello, I'm having an "Access denied" issue using roaming profiles for Windows Vista Ultimate RTM (patched to current). The actual login is successful, the full name is set properly and the password is handled correctly, however only a temporary profile is created. The interesting thing is that all else being the same, I do not encounter the same issue for Windows XP roaming

[LLVMdev] RFC: Drop support running LLVM on Windows XP
Nobody objected to raising the bar, so I think we can go ahead and do this. Keeping the XP support until 3.7 ships seems reasonable as it's less disruptive. Should we consider bypassing Vista and jumping to 7 as the lowest supported Windows version as David suggested? I think we should document 7 as the recommended baseline. After we start using some of the newer APIs, we can see if users

When I first configure the client, in the Received Items, it shows all = items correctly, but then, when starting to donwload, they simply = disappear. All other folders are OK. Problem is just in inbox. I thing (although my tests were not exaustive) that deleting the .imap = folder solves the problem, but I just can't understand why, because it = is recreated again... Any help? Thank you,

Something I was hoping to delay for some time. Our PDC is samba 2.2.8a with openldap 2.1.4 We also have a Domain Member Server running samba 3.0.10. There is a document on the Microsoft site that I downloaded

Package crashes R under Windows Vista
Dear all, Please, please I really need your help, since I am not able to solve the problem myself: It seems that until now most Windows users of my Bioconductor package "xps" use Windows XP, but recently a user tried to use it on Windows Vista where it crashed R immediately. Since I assume that some users may migrate to the upcoming Windows 7 where the problem will be the same, I
