R won't run under Win3.1 with win32s
I added win32s to Win 3.1 (actually Windowns for Workgroups). When I start R (from rsept31.zip) I get errno=120, the R window with R console come up briefly, print some info, and then quickly disappears. As I mentioned in another message, I'm able to run the same software in a Win-OS/2 session on a different computer. Why won't it run on an actual Windows machine?

2.2.8a and printers
I recent upgraded to 2.2.8, which went fine. When I checked smbclient -L firewall, I saw I Lost my printer share. I am using CUPS v1.1.3 for printing. When I went back to 2.2.7a it reappeared. 2 questions: 1> Why did it do this? I ./configured it --enable-cups- --with-pam_(smb) 2> Is there and advantage of upgrading such a small step? Or are there a big enough issues to warrant this

problem with logon and outlook
I had a problem logging on to the network, it was not getting my roaming profile, so I created a new logon and copied all of the information from the old profile directory to the new login profile directory. I logged on and everything seemed okay, it's like loggin on to the machine for the first time. When I start up MS Outlook my email account is not there, it asks me to setup a new

WINE ASPI support and my Polaroid SprintScan 35 Plus
I recently acquired one of these nice film scanners and have set about getting it to work under Linux+WINE (yes, I know about VueScan, but I need the finer controls offered by Polaroid's software). The last version of Windows I ever ran on my computer was 3.1, and I still have a working installation on a DOS partition. This scanner is old enough that Win3.1 drivers exist, and everything

Planning first Linux/Wine install
I'm planning my first Linux/Wine install. Is there any advantage to having a Windows (say W2K) partition to install Win apps to, when the plan is to run them under Wine/Linux? I do have a licensed copy of W2K, so I could do that if it were an advantage (e.g., is it easier to install difficult or unruly win apps under windows first?). Any other suggestions (I'm planning out my partition

Samba3 - small lan [1]
Hi, I have posted to this list once before without any reply. It would be nice if some reply could indicate why the posting was not appropriate and some indication as to what one should do - the last time I included my smbconf. This time I have reworked my questions, limited their scope , and put them in two emails. I have two essentially identical linux computers [east and west] both running

UK Samba Consultant Required
Hi All, I would like to migrate a 10 user NT4 Domain to a new Samba server. I have had a practice run but am struggling to make the (mostly) XP machines login to the new server without creating a new profile. I am sure that I migrated the SID but obviously I didn't get something right! Are there any consultants out there who might be able to help me through this process and teach me a

Request for advice on character set conversions (those damn Excel files, again ...)
Dear list, I have to read a not-so-small bunch of not-so-small Excel files, which seem to have traversed Window 3.1, Windows95 and Windows NT versions of the thing (with maybe a Mac or two thrown in for good measure...). The problem is that 1) I need to read strings, and 2) those strings may have various encodings. In the same sheet of the same file, some cells may be latin1, some

Problems with 2.3TB disk
Hi Guys, I have a server running CentOS 4.2 with a 2.6.9-22EL-smp kernel. The system contains a 2.3 TB RAID 5 array. There is a 20GB root partition with the remainder of the drive configured one large LVM volume. (/u0) I have installed Veritas Netbackup on the server and am running a few tests. Small backups and restores work just fine. When I run a larger backup (500MB) and store the
