no mouse avalilable in application
Hi there,
I'm quiet new to wine, which we try to use to establish Linux-systems at
schools. Educational software is almost always Windows based. We have a
pretty good program called Lernwerkstatt.
My problem is, that starting the program is working, then it takes up
the whole desktop and I don#T have any mouse support any more.
If I need to become more specific, let me know.
Hopefully

Hello,
I try to install a unsupported Software - French Learning Software by
Klett - with Codeweavers Standard Demo Version.
I receive an error an now found the error in the logfile, I assume the
problem comes from the wrong builtin library but I don't know.

hint what to change in the config-file or what microsoft

playlist trouble
Hi all,
I'm running icecast and use ices to stream mp3's to the server. The user can
search a database with english audio files ( it's for schools, so nothing
fancy ) and then klick on a play-button ( Anhören ) to stream the selected
title . But no matter what file is selected I only get the first entry
in the playlist.
I use the builtin-playlist-handler.
You can test it

No error on change to password below configured length
Hello!
Our users change their passwords using the original Win2K password
change mechanisms (Ctrl+Alt+Del -> Change Password). If one of the users
changes his password and the new one is shorter then 5 characters it is
rejected. This appears in the logfile and that's OK so far but the users
don't get notified. They think the password has changed and use the new
one.
Why is that? Could

What exactly IS the winbind daemon?
Hi,
maybe this is a newbie-question, but ... here we go:
I read the documentation for winbindd several times now but didn't get
far. We run Samba as primary domain controller for several dozen
clients and over 3000 users and never used winbind, so my question is
quite simple:
What does winbind provide and when do i need it?
I assume that winbind is only used when i use samba as a client in

Disabling Machine Account password change
Hello!
We have a school environment with Debian servers and Win2K clients.
There are about 700 clients and 30 servers. There is piece of hardware
installed on all clients the resets the changes made to the local disk
at reboot.
This seems to be a problem with Win2K changing machine account passwords
every 30 days (according to MSDN). The server saves the password, the
client resets it and domain

pgup/pgdown in R Graphics Window under Linux
Dear S-users.
This should be an easy one: How do I change pages on an X11 graphics
device under linux?
I thought that the page-up/page-down keys were supposed to do the trick,
but the frame (window) seems to be kind of immune to any kind of keyboard
input. The only reaction I ever see is that the mouse pointer changes to a
"+" when moved into the frame.
I issue these commands:

Compiling Problems with ices
Hi list,
I tried to set up icecast and ices on our server and ran into problems
compiling ices. I ran ./configure --with-xml-config=/usr/lib where the
libxml2-2.4.3 is sitting but got this error :
"in ices_config.o undefined ref. to xmlParseFile"
I also installed libxml2-2.4.3-devel, so the header files should be in place.
I ran ldconfig several times but that didn't change

biglm() and NeweyWest()
Dear all,
I am working on a large dataset and need to use biglm() to perform OLS
regressions. I have detected significant ARCH effects which I try to account
for using the Newey-West correction.
So far, I have worked with NeweyWest() in the sandwich package. NeweyWest()
however seems to be unable to handle an object of class "biglm".
Looking into the code, I figured out that

Winbind authentication over transitive trusts between multiple W2k3 Domains
Hallo,
we use Samba 3.0.22 with MIT Kerberos and winbind on Ubuntu edgy in a
Windows2003 ADS enviroment. Everything works fine like kinit, net ads
join, getting the Domain accounts from the own and other domains, but one
important thing fails - obviously winbind cannot resolve name to sid, when
the account is in another domain, where is only a transitive trust, not a
direct.

Possible to use 2 LDAP-Servers for different purposes?
Hi,
is it possible to realize the following scenario? And if yes: how? ;)
The current setup is as follows:
We have a Samba 3 server on a linux machine as PDC and an OpenLDAP
server as passdb backend (on the same host). All users and groups were
inserted via the SMBLDAP tools by IDEALX. So far, so good. Everything
runs fine.
Now our plan is it to use another, external LDAP server for pure

\\<Samba-Server>\nobody : feature or bug ?
Hello!
I just noticed a behavior of samba I am wundering about:
I have a Samba-Server with a [homes] section.
As user "barth" I conect to this using
\\<Samba-Server>\<any username>
permission is checked for "barth" with his password and access is
granted with the rights of barth to the HOME-directory of
<any username>.
So far so good. This also works

Possible to have Email-Adresses as logins?
Hi,
we want to set up a samba-server with an ldap-backend (so far no
problem, got this running already) but want the users to login to
workstations using their email-address instead of a "normal"
login-name.
I already figured out that i cannot add unix users with an "@" in
their login neither via "useradd" nor via "smbldap-useradd", so i was

Disabling storeing of cached profiles?
Hello!
I know that this is not samba related, but may be some one knows a
quick answer:
When using profiles, stored on a well running samba-2.0.0beta2 PDC,
the NT PC's cache the profile during a user session. As this
profile is not deleted on the PC and we have a lot of users with only
few PC's we need a lot of diskspace for this old profiles.
Is there a way (Registry Key, ..) that
