distorted native music on hold
Hello,
Using asterisk-1.2.1 I am trying to convert my music-on-hold files from
.wav to alaw:
% sox moh.wav -r 8000 -c 1 moh.al resample -ql
The file sounds fine when listened with:
% sox mox.al -t ossdsp /dev/dsp
But when listened through asterisk with an alaw SIP phone the sound is
clicky and too fast.
Did I forget something in my conversion command?

apply (or similar preferred) for multiple columns
Dear all,
I would like to use the apply or a similar function belonging to this
family, but applying for each column (or row) but let say for each q
columns. For example I would like to apply a function FUN for the first q
columns of matrix X then for q+1:2*q and so on. If I do apply (X, 2, FUN) it
applies for each column and not for every q columns. Is that possible with
any similar function?

File Extension .OGG
Hi,
I've already sent this to feedback@vorbis.com, but I got no response
and this might be more correctly placed here anyway, so here is a
revised vesrion.
I have one thing to criticize, which is the file extension *.OGG.
It's ambigous (the Netrek meaning) and using it for both video and
audio seems confusing. Plus, there are a lot of OGG files floating
around that are generated by

effective df in local polinomial regression
Hallo R-users,
I would like to know if there is a way to get the effective degrees
of freedom in
local polinomial regression. At the moment, to carry out the local
polinomial regression, I am using the function
locpoly() in library KernSmooth (I need to estimate both the regression
function and its derivatives, up to the 3rd one).
Thanks,
Simone

New package: msmtools (v1.0)
Greetings, R users!
It is with pleasure that I am announcing the release of msmtools package on CRAN:
https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/msmtools/index.html
msmtools provides a fast and general method for restructuring classical longitudinal data into augmented ones. The reason for this is to facilitate the modeling of longitudinal data under a multi-state framework using the 'msm?

ActiveComputerName vs ComputerName
Hi!
ComputerName and ActiveComputerName are values from registry (HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName\).
If I use `wine regedit` to set ActiveComputerName to any value after a short time it becomes equal to the value of ComputerName.
Can I set ActiveComputerName different than ComputerName?
P.S. I have wine-1.3.13 and UseDnsComputerName=N.

question on DPpackage
Hi to everyone,
I'm a PhD student and I'm involved in non parametric analyses of
hierarchical models. I tried to use package DPpackage on my data, but I
encountered some problems in interpreting ouputs. Can anybody help me?
The problem can be remued as follows: I have a logit hierarchical model
for survival (i.e. binary response) in patients affected by heart
failure (the court

Inserting MachineInstr's
Hi,
I have a task to complete and I'm getting stuck. I can't find anything comparable in the documentation. The shortest explanation I can give is as follows: I need to use double-precision floating point values for floating-point multiplies. I'll not go into why: That would take the discussion away from the essential problem. E.g.

[patch] one warning, one omission, and two requests; portable CVS
Requests first: after a build, "make" always remakes all the .out files;
maybe we could add a few dependencies there? And could we possibly have a
few more '@if' lines in the Makefile to quiet it down?
These should be obvious:

Intermittent timeout issues
Greetings list!
We've been experiencing an intermittent issue in which none users are able to log into the mail server for about 10 to 20 minutes.
This issue first appeared on our CentOS 4 box running dovecot 1.2.11 after upgrading from the stock version 0.99. The issue persists after migrating our users to a CentOS 5 server - also running version dovecot 1.2.11 but now in the 64-bit

configure.ac
Hi,
Just a quick mail to mention that I cannot generate a new configure script
using autoconf or autoreconf. I had edited the configure.ac and thought ...
"oh, that's my fault", but then I tried it on R-patched and R-3.4.1 without
touching configure.ac and had the same problems.
The "building R packages" documentation seems to suggest that "autoconf"

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list.
I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without
modifications.
How did I try it?
Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock )
Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a
rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee
prep-out.log
The build failed at the end:
Processing files: kernel-xenU-devel-2.6.9-67.0.20.EL
