MS Office 2000 Small Business instalation problem
Hello. I'm trying to install MS Office 2000 Small Bussiness (Polish version) with latest CVS wine. Office2K & file overwriting problems
Using Office2K (Word & Excel) on NTWS 4.0 and samba 3.0.0 on Debian Linux, kernel 2.4.21. 1. Run Excel and create a sheet. Save it to the Samba server. No problem. 2. Close the sheet and open a new one (File->New). 3. Try to save the new sheet over the first one and Excel gives the error: "Cannot save the file. 'H:\test\Book1.xls' is not a valid file name." 4. Office (2K) options on Linux
I am just starting to migrate towards Linux (RedHat 7.1 Burned and one trial install on another machine went well). However I do alot of work for other companies on Office (EspeciallyExcel) (generally 2K) and would like to be able to do so without rebooting. AFAICT I have a few options. One is to have a dedicated windows box and use a program such as VNC or Exceed to view it (I don't like

wineprefixcreate ?
wineprefixcreate does not create a working registry. The system had a working set of .wine .reg files however installs of office2k failed. I then saved .wine and rebuilt it with wineprefixcreate. After this the original applications did not work. Is wineprefixcreate supposed to succeed at this? Thanks - Dan

README.Win32-Viruses and MS Office Administrative Installation Points
The README.Win32-Viruses file distributed with Samba 2.2.2 gives procedures for trying to stop the Nimda virus on Samba shares. It contains mostly good info and it is a good idea to implement this extra level of protection but there is one thing to watch out for. The README says to veto the file "riched20.dll" (along with a few others). This is fine unless you are using your Samba box

Reg: ggplot error
Hallo I am not familiar with any of packages you use (except of MASS and ggplot2) and the code is too complicated without any hint where the error could come from and what is the message you get. I wonder if anybody would like to go through your whole code. 1. data seems to be read correctly ICUData <- read.csv(file = "ICUData.csv", stringsAsFactors = TRUE) ICUData.neuro <-

Windows2000SP2/Word2000 slow printing
I suspect this is an old one but can't find the answer in the archives Symptoms: Word2000 "hangs"/ takes ages(minutes) to open document apparently due to doing something with default printer??? relevent smbd process on server runs up to 50-60% and stops there for several minutes. Oplocks seem to be created on downloadable driver files when printer is accessed DENY WRITE

xyplot type="l"
Probably a stupidly simple question, but I wouldn't know how to google it: xyplot(neuro ~ time | UserID, data=data_sub) creates a proper plot. However, if I add type = "l" the lines do not go first through time1, then time2, then time3 etc but in about 50% of all subjects the lines go through points seemingly random (e.g. from 1 to 4 to 2 to 5 to 3). The lines always start at time

libogg++ release 1.1.0
Hi everybody, I posted here about two years ago about the initial release. This is a release that fixes many bugs, and has enhancements that make it possible to support a multi-stream format, ALingA, which I will mention briefly later. It also supports a PCM format, Neuro, both as part of the multi-stream codec, and stand-alone. libogg++ is a C++ library implementing Ogg. It is designed to be

saving rounded numbers as a new variable in a dataframe
A basic question, but one that eludes me. I have created a new variable $numurder, which I have rounded off. I want to save the rounded off version of this variable to an existing datafile called 'ngri.csv' . numurder <-c((murder*no.of.cases)/100) [[1]] [1] 48.952 112.073 182.160 974.610 122.140 663.432 150.856 18.988 137.925 198.045 68.930 203.148 30.056 100.955

Generating random normal distribution with mean 0 and standard deviation 1
Hello, This must be really simple, but I can't find it on R Site search. I need to generate a random normally distributed series with mean 0 and sd 1. In Matlab, this code is randn(n). The closest I found is runif(20,-1,1) but this forces a maximum and a minimum, and there's no way to specify a standard deviation of 1. >sd(runif(20,-1,1)) [1] 0.578164

Vector extracted from a matrix. How can I specify dimensions in as.matrix?
Transpose vector extracted from a matrix Hello, I am doing a recursive analysis that uses every line (vector) of a matrix in a loop. In the model, I need to transpose those vectors that are extracted from a matrix. Using simple vectors (no matrix involved) the transpose function works fine: simplevector <-matrix(1:3,3,1) tsimplevector <-t(simplevector) #transposed dim(simplevector)

Problem with parsing a dataset - help earnestly sought
Dear fellow R-help members, I hope to seek your advice on how to parse/manage a dataset with hundreds of columns. Two examples of these columns, 'cancer.problems', and 'neuro.problems' are depicted below. Essentially, I need to parse this into a useful dataset, and unfortunately, I am not familiar with perl or any such language. data <- data.frame(id=c(1:10))
