Analysis of the Microsoft Settlement from a Samba perspective.
The Samba Team would welcome Microsoft documenting its proprietary server protocols. Unfortunately this isn't what the settlement stipulates. The settlement states : "E. Starting nine months after the submission of this proposed Final Judgment to the Court, Microsoft shall make available for use by third parties, for the sole purpose of interoperating with a Windows Operating System

Microsoft Antitrust Remedy proposal, take 3
I've learned a fair bit since putting together my essay on the States' proposed remedies. In particular, Microsoft's response to the States was enlightening; it pointed out the parts of the Court of Appeals ruling that need to be heeded when fashioning a remedy. I now feel that the States' proposal has little chance of being accepted by the judge. The Proposed Final Judgment

Heineken Face EU Fines for Curbing Rivalry
Heineken NV and Carlsberg A/S may be fined after the European Commission charged that they conspired to curb competition in the Dutch and Danish beer markets from 1993 to 1996. The European Union's antitrust regulator said evidence collected in raids two years ago showed the two brewers broke EU law by agreeing not to sell ``intensively'' in each other's territory. The companies

Microsoft hotfix MS04-011, breaks Samba password change.
Hi all, I wanted to give an update on this as I know this MS Hotfix is critical and must be applied to protect against the (latest) Microsoft worm. I think I've found the problem in the code, and am currently testing a fix for this (not in the release to others to test stage yet). As soon as I'm reasonably confident I'll put a patch out there for others to test, and we'll

Problem with a dos program running from a samba share.
I'm having troubles with a DOS program running from a samba 3 share. When I close the program it tells: General failure reading drive F Abort, Retry, Fail? (F is a network drive mapped on the samba share) I have increased smbd debug level and after retrying I have this in the log: [2003/09/28 11:19:56, 3] lib/util.c:unix_clean_name(580) unix_clean_name [/TTN02/RESHET1/DOJ] [2003/09/28

Cygwin, Rsync, and Raid5
Hello all! I've got CGYWIN running on an NT4 server, which in turn allows me to run Rsync as a daemon on this system. And might I say, it works most excellently, except for one flaw. It doesn't work on my raid drive(s). I have a 56 gig NTFS RAID5 drive running off an adaptec raid-port controller card. I have two other drives in this system, a 4 gig SCSI boot drive, and 60 gig IDE

Samba connections issues (3.0.23 on Solaris 8 with NIS+)
I'm curious if anyone has suggestions about a problem we have encountered. We have recently upgraded a 2.2.8a server to 3.0.23. The server in question is running Solaris 8 with NIS+. Storage is from our SAN. Since the migration, we have found that we no longer have access to several shares. They are connected, but we are unable to get to them. Samba will indicate that we are connected to

FLAC: library for C#
is wrapping c++ any easier? because there is libFLAC++ otherwise, if you only need a certain subset of what FLAC does it might be easier to write a smaller C interface + wrapper implementation, then import that in c#.
