Abiword as test of Wine
One problem with Wine has been that there were few
serious open source win32 applications out there to
test Wine with (ok, maybe my opinions are from 1997 :-)
In any case, we have some great open source Win32 applications
to test with. AbiWord is one.
I just tried installing AbiWord 0.9 under the latest
Codeweavers preview. The install worked -- but generated

Centos 6.3 - which repos to use?
I've just installed v6.3 as a desktop (from
Centos-6.3-i386-LiveCD.iso) and to get the hang of the Centos approach
and then hope to move on to a server. I've been using linux *buntu for
5 years.
Hope i don't sound like a nit but i've got a little confused with the
repos. Hoping someone would be kind enough just to clarify. This
installation is for stability whilst installing the

antiword
Hi guys,
I've been noticing more and more that antiword has trouble with many
word documents.
It may look like it's converted a document but leaves out headings and
bits of text.
I've been looking into getting openoffice to do it in headless mode but
still have a way to go before it's stable.
I was wondering if anyone else had any luck on this front?
One quick fix I have found

[LLVMdev] [Polly]GSoC Proposal: Reducing LLVM-Polly Compiling overhead
Dear Tobias Grosser,
Today I have rebuilt the LLVM-Polly in Release mode. The configuration of my own testing machine is: Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2390(1.86GHz) with 2GB DDR2 memory.
I evaluated the Polly using PolyBench and Mediabench. It takes too long time to evaluate the whole LLVM-testsuite, so I just choose the Mediabench from LLVM-testsuite.
The preliminary results of Polly compiling

Newb needs help with Lotus Ami Pro
Hi, folks.
I'm new to both Ubuntu Linux and Wine.
I've been running Lotus Ami Pro for years under Windows 98 and have about 70MB of Ami Pro files. Nowadays, though, printers are not made to support Windows 98 anymore.
I had heard about WINE, and rather than buy another Microsoft product, I decided to see if I could run Ami Pro under another OS. My new printer works perfectly under

postscript bug? (PR#9803)
postscript() produces files that are not encoded as eps, according to
the standard. Hence, word processors such as OpenOffice and AbiWord do
not recognise the files as eps. See
http://www.postscript.org/FAQs/language/node80.html
The problem is in the first line of the postscript file: The header is
wrong. It should be:
%!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0
whereas postscript() produces:
%!PS-Adobe-3.0

[slightly off topic] Sweave with markdown
DeaR list,
Has anyone tried to mix the Sweave paradigm with the Markdown[*] (and
co.) syntax? Would this be hard to implement? My tiny understanding
of Sweave is that one can define new drivers for the text part, while
some functions that deal with the R code would not require any
modification. Here's the reason I'm interested in Mardown for a driver.

Editing in external application
Hello list,
If there are any professional consultants reading this list, I would be able
to to get my company to pay for a solution to this problem.
Im having a problem that has been stupefying me for two weeks now:
I have a VB 6 application that opens documents externally for editing. From

LOTD with CentOS 5
Howdy folks -
I just moved my laptop from Fedora to CentOS. FC6 was running rather
sweet, then they decided to EOL it, and F8 - while it had some nice new
features, it was just way to quirky for me. I no longer enjoy
re-installing the OS quite so often, hence my move to CentOS.
So I installed CentOS 5 on my laptop, and built a bunch of packages,
making "yet another" repo for CentOS.

Hello,
I use AbiWord for my regular personal use, but I require real MSWord2007 occasionally for work, so installed it and have had it working fine fine for some time now, but yesterday it suddenly just stopped. Can't open the program at all. When I try it pops me up with two errors. they both say Microsoft C++ Visual Runtime Library - R6034 - An application has made an attempt to load the c

Hi!
Half an hour ago I installed wine-20041201 under Mandrake Linux 9.1,
successfully I think.
On my PC I also have a partition with Windows 98 in it, correctly mounted.
I installed Wine with the main purpose of properly writing and reading documents
in MS Word, since neither kword, nor Open Office kwrite nor even abiword
achieve this purpose in a satisfaying way.
Now, probably I haven't

Text-Extraction Libraries for Omindex
This is a list with some libraries that I have been looking at.
The idea is to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of adding some of
these libraries to Xapian.
If anyone knows another library that could be add to the list it would be
great!
