Problem writing to fat hd
Hi!
i just downloaded 20010510 sources, compiled and installed it on my RedHat
7.1 linux box.
I have several vfat (fat32) and linux (ext2) partitions on my pc ( i also
have a windows98 installation). I have configured the fat32 parrtition like:
[Drive E]
"Path" = "/deposito"
"Type" = "hd"
"Filesystem" = "vfat"
and the ext2 like:

best filesystem choice for samba (was: new user cannotlogon)
ARGH! I'm wondering if airing thoughts about VFAT performance publicly
was a good idea.
I was only interested from a technical point of view - I would NOT
recommend using it on a production server unless there happened to be a
real case for using it.
The biggest thing to bear in mind in your case is that VFAT does NOT
support ACLs or disk quotas. It also doesn't support journalling and

wine problem - cannot write to directory
I just installed a new version of wine and wine stopped working.
It starts and I am getting a message that I have no permition to write on
my Win c:\ disk.
I checked that root is owner of c:\ directories, so I switched to root
user (even my userid is defined in the same group as root) and I am
gettin a message that root cannot run wine.
So I tried to "chmod 774 Agent" (Agent is directory

win_patitions-access
Hello,
I'm using dual boot system and have windows partitions on my disk. The
problem is that I can't write to it as user (copy files etc). I'm also
unable to chage permissions or owner. So wine can' access them. I looked
up fstab man and related
issues but still didn't find solution.
Thanks in advance

smbmount error
I posted a similar email recently regarding this. One thing has changed,
however; I have upgraded my kernel to 2.2.6 (hence I'm now using the samba
version of smbmount rather than the smbfs version).
I get the error "no such device" when trying to mount a network drive.
My command line is:
smbmount "\\\\susangra\\c-hd" -c 'mount /mnt'

Office XP? Windows XP dlls? mIRClocked up.
I've read through some archives on the users mailing list and found some
answers to getting Wine 20020122 going. I didn't have to change much
with the default way tools/wineinstall. Here's my questions
1) Does Wine run programs that live in a native Windows XP vfat
partition using the native dlls?
2) Does Wine run Office XP, even if it is buggy?
3) Can it run programs such as

!$!$!$!$.pfr and others
Hi!
When I started Wine (some Jan. 2001 version), it moved some
directories from my windows partition, renamed them and made
them write-protected. As I ran down Linux and restarted
Windows, the moved directories still were there. I had to
rename them and to move them back.
How can I tell Wine not to mess up my windows directory structure?
Thanx

wine and microsoft word file write errors ???
Hello all,
Wine is getting solid enough that it is appropriate for some real work,
however it still is failing write with write errors from MS Word.
Updates, reads, edits, fonts, etc all seem to be fine. However any write
causes a disk full or permissions error. I am running as root root in
this case and other programs under wine write w/o error.
If it is any clue the file name shows up as

ext3 + loop + journaling
[ If this is explained somewhere else (HOWTO or FAQ), please give me a
pointer. ]
Is there any way to mix loop-device (and in particular) loop-AES and ext3
together in data journaling mode?
Ie.
bottom -> to -> top
ext3 - loop-AES - ext3
raw - loop-AES - ext3
Or am I shooting myself to leg, I am?

win32:DEVICE_Open Unknown VxD A:. Try --winver nt40 or win31 !
Hi,
I was hoping to use wine to run one of those stupid windows binaries that
generate a floppy (at least IBM has a clue, and also offers the raw floppy
image for dd-ing)
In this case, the culprit is seagate's seatools:
http://www.seagate.com/support/seatools/
I installed wine under debian unstable (Version: 0.0.20010824-1) and when I
run the windows binary under wine, it runs but

trying to create a WinNT rescue disk
I have probably a rather unusual problem. I have a computer with WinNT
already installed on it, plus RedHat7.2, and would like to try and
create a repair disk for the WinNT install (I'm no longer able to boot
NT, though I have no problem starting the NT bootloader - after I
choose Windows NT 4.0 and it starts to boot, I get a BSOD with
reference to being unable to access the bootloader (which
