SETUP.EXE error
I have installed Wine-0.0.20011004. I am able to run windows programs which
have been installed on my Windows harddrive (but don't want to do this).
After setting up Wine to use a fake_windows directory, I attempt:
$ wine SETUP.EXE (with any Windows program)
and get the following box:
Setup Initialization Error
Setup requires a different version of Windows ..blah, blah... Error 102

Running USB DSL Modem
Is it possible to use Wine to run USB DSL modems with Win9x only drivers? I
had a choice of a free PCI or USB modem and heard I had a better shot with
the USB. There are no Linux drivers, at least for now.

No Server Browsing in Half Life / CS / Return to Wolfenstein
For some reason TCP/IP apps (Ultima Online, mIRC, etc.) work fine, but
when I go to browse servers for Internet Games in Half Life /
Counterstrike / etc.. can't get a server list, no error, just 0 servers.
No, there are no filters on or anything and I hit update and refresh and
still a no go; Yes, Everything works fine in Windows. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

TOO MANY ERRORS
Ok, I've tried wine with about 10 different aplications and it always
returns SOME kind of error... and it closes... the only one I can run
without ANY problem is DiabloII.... not even half life runs on wine...
Using wineX didn't solve any problem.. in fact I think it it even
harder...
Any idea why wine won't work with virtually no game at all???
thanks a lot

Wine desktop emulation
Hi,
if you don't like to read the reason of the question, skip the blue part ;)
i usually like to play older games with wine, and many of them are restricted to a screen resolution of SVGA or XGA ect. This looks of course incredibly bad on a Full HD Widescreen.
Some of these games offer parameters or modes to play them in windowed mode (DiabloII, ...), some of them do only support the

Diablo 2 & Wine
I cant really seem to find a definite answer: there's a bunch of stuff written
on the subject, but nothing definite. "I've got it half way working" seems to be
all I can find.
So, has anyone gotten it working fully? I'd love to be able to run this without
having to install windows... that would be a pain having to reformat etc etc
etc...
thx

Error 25: A critical error has occurred while initializing Direct3D.
I thought wine didn't support direct3D and that was why I was

you need to update your NOLF to ver 3 by getting the patch, then goto
gamecopyworld.com to get the fixed exe, then wine Nolf.exe and you get as
far as I, I get a splash screen but when I click launch it says "No game
resources specified" and dies..... respond to this if you read it just so
I know your alive, maybe we can get it running?

RE: using samba over AT@T broadband (Barry deFreese)
AT&T Broadband blocks ports 137,138, and 139. They want to protect those
Windows users that install File and Print Sharing from viruses and
attacks.

Tag format comments from a newbie
Hello, all:
As a newbie with a high opinion of my opinion, I couldn't let the opportunity pass by to put in my $0.02(USD)...
First, a summary:
We have two places to put information about the song I'm listening to; the metadata stream and the comment header.
The metadata stream is intended to be variable-length and (potentially) containing a number of disparate types of details. Not
