error finding library when running test program
I''m new to Ruby and wxRuby, and I just installed Ruby 185-21 (I run WinXP), then used gem to install wxRuby2. When I try to run a short test program (included below), I get this error: C:\Documents and Settings\Mike\Desktop>ruby test.rb c:/ruby/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:27:in `gem_original_require'': no such file to load -- wxruby (LoadError)

Stats question - cox proportional hazards adjustments
Hi useRs, Many studies of the link between red meat and colorectal cancer use Cox proportional hazards with (among other things) a gender covariate. If it is true that men eat more red meat, drink more alcohol and smoke more than women, and if it is also true that alcohol and tobacco are known risk factors then why does it make sense to "adjust" for gender? I would think that in this

File locking issue
I have a client with an older server that is running into a weird file locking problem. The server is running FC2, samba 3.0.7 and kernel 2.6.10. They have recently installed AutoDesk Revit, which is apparently some sort of collaborative design software. Revit keeps a central repository and then allows different clients to access it. What is happening is that only the person who created the

Source code analysis for R ?
A GUI-heavy R project of mine has mushroomed into well over 1000 lines of code. It is getting to a point where I am wondering if someone had something like a script to summarize which functions call which other etc. Note that I am not looking at profiling but rather a (static) analysis of code interdepence. Does anybody here have anything for this task? Thanks for any pointers, Dirk --

Patch to controls.rb
This patch fixes the controls.rb sample so the images load properly on windows. On windows, wxIcon does -not- descend from wxImage. This means it does not have access to the image handling routines wxImage does. Furthermore, despite the documentation, it does -not- support XPM icons on Windows. The solution is to just not use icons where images are needed. The second solution was to

Icon generation?
I am aware that wine will create a .xpm for the icon in the program file, but how would I create it after a "manual install"? I recently copied mspaint from my win partition to my wine installation and would like an icon on the user desktop link. Several programs I have for windows may require a manual install, so I would like to know how the .xpm is created.

re form data for aov()?
I have data in a file named hands.dat, which is given at the end of this question. (It's from a stats textbook example on anova). I'd like to do an aov on this, which I guess would be d <- read.table("~/hands.dat", header=TRUE) aov(Bacterial.Counts ~ Water + Soap + Antibacterial.Soap + Alcohol.Spray, data=d) but this fails. Do I need to break d$Method up into columns for

Wine installer
Hi, when I run ./tools/wineinstall, I get this: Warning !! wine binary (still) found, which may indicate a (conflicting) previous installation. You might want to abort and uninstall Wine first. rpm -qa | grep wine gives nothing find / "*wine*" gives: /etc/opt/kde2/share/applnk/SuSE/Settings/YaST/notinstalled/System/Emulator/wine.desktop

Missing XPM
I hate to repost this perennial newbie question, but even after browsing the archives and trying various remedies, I'm still stuck. The problem: I've compiled Wine from Wine-20011226 on Mandrake 8.0, and when I try to run an application, I get the following: $ wine mspaint Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.0 fixme:x11drv:OBM_CreateBitmaps Xpm support not in

Using file to handle a direcoty, recurse question.
Alright, going ot ask this question in advance of doing bone headed tests. I have one application that does not understand the idea of /usr/local/ and insists on populating /usr. Of course it is closed source and commercial and it is the one they want to use. Below is the list of junk it shoves in /usr/share. Between the Type Reference guide and another email , I believe I can move this tree
