bitmap (blank image) plot rendering without X11
Hi, I am trying to generate plots on our unix (no X) server to be included in our web-pages -> specifically pngs. Without X, png() obviously doesn't work, so I have been trying to define the graphics print device bitmap as described in the help: > bitmap(file="plot.png", type = "png256", height = 6, width=6,res=72) > pie(c(12,5)) >

Re: nice idea
Sounds like a good start. However, think what it would mean if we could get rid of any residual. In the best case scenario, the output would be a series of function coefficients describing a wave, and a length parameter. In the case of music, you can reasonably expect an unforseeable attack and a consistent decay for each sound component. That means if you can totally describe the first wave to

How do you guys protect Samba shares from Win32 based viruses?
That's pretty much the question. I've got Symantec NAVCE running on my NT server protecting itself, the Windows clients and the Exchange server, but what do i do about my Linux based Samba server? Will a linux based AV app search for Win32 based viruses? Thanks, VeKTeReX

Accuracy problem in dchisq for non-central chi-squared
Hi, I think I have identified a inaccuracy in dchisq when the non-centrality parameter is non-zero and large. Here's a little test: sys.dchisq.test <- function(N = 100000,mean = 0) { z <- rnorm(N,mean = mean, sd = 1) x <- z^2 xmin <- min(x) xmax <- max(x) br <- seq(xmin,xmax,length = 101) dbr <- br[2]-br[1] hist(x,br) p <- dchisq(br,df = 1,ncp =

LAME guys are making improvements, too
Hello all, it seems that at least some of the points that make OGG Vorbis superior to MP3 will be eliminated (I still prefer OGG :) Roel VdB wrote to [MP3encoder] list: -------------------------><8---------CUT HERE-------------------------- I hope Gabriel commits Jons complete LAME Tag code soon to the CVS. The LAME tag would makes all CBR(>=64kbit/s)/ABR/VBR LAME files have +

OFF-TOPIC: Job opening in Marin County, California
I'm feeling rather sheepish about adding to topic drift, but like Jim last week, I'm looking for a developer to work on either/both front-/back-end components of our LAMP (with P as in Perl) application. Compared to Jim, I can probably promise a little less abuse but just as many hours and as much stress. More details here: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/eng/669189624.html CentOS

Nice job, 5.3 developers/testers!
And everyone involved with this release! I followed the instructions (including removing the two packages, lam and I forget what other one it was now, and updating glibc first), and the update was completely painless. And, with that yum "fastest repo" add-on thingy, wow! I had 2 megaBYTE/sec downloads of the updates to my 6 boxes. Everything was updated in an hour, and I was good to

Problem with joining Active Server Domain
I have built samba 3.0.8 with ADS support. From the Solaris 9 end it appeared to join the active directory server domain OK. However when I look using Windows Explorer on the ADS (Windows 2003) machine it appears as Samba 3.0.8 server under WORKGROUP, and I cannot access the shares. I am using the MIT kerberos. The Howto guide on page 74 is a bit ambiguous. I read it to say that if you are

Very Nice!
Hey Peter! Great work on the SYSLINUX project! I spent three days noodling over how to accomplish *exactly* what your ISOLINUX/MEMDISK combination does! Even a blind hog finds an acorn from time to time. I have it working great using the crpack utility suite from http://www.nu2.nu and one of Bart Lagerweij's techniques employs your SYSLINUX utilities - you probably already know all about

[cfe-dev] RFC: Replacing the default CRT allocator on Windows
Thanks for the suggestion James, it reduces the commit by about ~900 MB (14,9 GB -> 14 GB). Unfortunately it does not solve the performance problem. The heap is global to the application and thread-safe, so every malloc/free locks it, which evidently doesn’t scale. We could manually create thread-local heaps, but I didn’t want to go there. Ultimately allocated blocks need to share ownership

Final Fantasy VIII works, but sound choppy.
Hey Folks. I've been playing FF8 in Linux the last few days (Software Rendering). Don't think it ever worked accelerated in windows either, though (GeForce card). The graphics keep a fair pace and everything would be good, if it weren't for the choppy sound. It seems to make a smal pause about once a second or so (when I'm lucky, the music plays without interruptions for 15-30

digits in summary.default
Dear all, the number of significant digits in summary default is digits = max(3, getOption("digits") - 3) on my platform this results to be 4. The point is that if you have, say, integer data of magnitude greater than 10^3 the command summary will produce heavily rounded results. A simple example follow: > x <- c(123456,234567,345678) > x [1] 123456 234567 345678 >
