Can not install Excel97/Word97
Hello! I am new to this list (although I have done a fair amount of research in the archives) and I need to ask what is probably one of the most frequently asked questions on a list like this: How do I install Word97 and Excel97? (Codeweavers CrossoverOffice can do this, and they ASSURE us that they roll everything they do back to the main wine CVS and hence, this SHOULD work!) So far; this is

Protocol stream error copying extended attribute, silent failure to copy all data
I'm using rsync 3.0.7 on Mac OS X 10.6, compiled with HFS+ enhancements according to Mike Bombich's instructions at http://www.bombich.com/rsync.html. Rsync repeatedly exits with a protocol data stream error on some com.apple.FinderInfo extended attributes. While testing this issue, I found that rsync is not copying all extended attributes even when there is no error message. I'm using

Installing Excel 97, SUCCESS!!
Hi again! Yesterday I wrote to this list complaining that I could not install Excel 97. I have now succeeded. The trick was NOT to run "install.exe", but to unpack xl97_1.cab and run the acmsetup.exe in there, like so: "wine -- acmsetup.exe /T excel97.stf" (I think that excel97.stf existed in the first cab-file as well.) The installer will ask for a few files that all can

Rsync repeatedly exits with a protocol data stream error when trying to copy some com.apple.FinderInfo extended attributes. While testing this issue, I found that rsync is not actually copying all extended attributes even when there is no error message. I'm

kde2_what's thaT?
Hi, I'm using Mandrake 7.0 kernel 2...14-15mdk. As far as I could gather I can't install kde 2.0.1. It needs kernel 2...15. Do I really need to recompile the kernel? Is it worth doing? I've heard KDE_2 very unstable. Should I wait for more stable 2.1 version? Is it possible to have KDE 1.1.2 and the new 2.01 without destroying previous setting, just to test? Thank you in advance

MSWord97 installs properly but still won't launch (or save?)
Dear friends: I've been trying for some time to install my copy of Word97 (which I own, having purchased it directly from Microsoft with my own license number). I have tried the latest Wine 0.9.14. To do this, I first UNinstalled version 0. 9.1-4 (PCLINUXOS), then installed the new wine from source. The source install asked me to install a number of font files, which I did (bison,

Word97 launches but still cannot save or load
Dear friends: Thanks to Ekkehard, I found out how to launch Word97. I went to the .wine/drive_c directory and then (using quotes around "Program Files" and "Microsoft Office") I cd's to where Winword.exe was and then typed, within this subdirectory: wine WINWORD.EXE. That launched Word97 at last. But when I try to save a document, all I get is the first letter of the file

Problem running Win32 app under Wine
Hi to every one, I am using MandrakeLinux 8.1 on 4 different machines and a notebook. I have updated the system with the first UpDate CD. My problem is that when I start a Win32 application, say Word97, Wincp, Winzip and other private applications, nothing happens. It means that after complaining about non existant fonts, wine run undefinitly, and winreal take about 95% of the processor time.

SP? Re: Rounding problem R vs Excel
Hi again Sam, Sorry for not replying sooner. I have been ignoring everything for a while to work on the AMMP analysis tool and the continuing saga of migrating the legacy AMMP data. Our consultant has written some programs that take a VERY long time to run :( Anyway, I now know Java and a certain amount of JSP. I hope to be able to get around to this soon. It is all a bit hard now with our

Further to: Samba screwed up when trying to save a word97 document
Futher to my last message regarding samba being confused when a Word97 file was being saved. I have been looking at the docs and log files again and now understand that the problem is related to opportunistic locking. I also found the part of the log file that details the start of the event. Here it is: 1998/06/19 15:51:19 ukswi1000 (175.12.50.218) connect to service its as user bramsons

Word97 SR2 error while working on a doc stored on a Samba PDC share
Hi, I support around 15 Windows 2000 Clients who log into and have home directories on a Samba PDC running under RedHat 7.3. The version of samba I am using is 2.5.5. All the clients use Word97 SR2 and they all get the following error while working on documents stored on their home directories on the PDC: Word failed reading from this file (filename.doc).
