Compuserve through wine
Has anybody had success in running Compuserve or a related program through their fake_windows drive? I think that the main problems would be a) Compuserve's proprietary dialer b)Compuserve's proprietary browser c)Compuserve's proprietary timing mechanism ( that measures how long you've been online) d) A failure of the fstab in fake_windows to recognize your modem as a valid

Application -almost- working
Hello all from a wine newbie. I have an old favorite Windows application that is one of the last impediments to being completely Windows free. The app was written in vb I am pretty sure as it requires vbrun300.dll After sorting out some font related problems I got it running but there is a hiccup that is very maddening: After the first (or second) running, a function of the program hangs. Seems

Can I use "mcnemar.test" for 3*3 tables (or is there a bug in the command?)
Hello all, I wish to perform a mcnemar test for a 3 by 3 matrix. By running the slandered R command I am getting a result but I am not sure I am getting the correct one. Here is an example code: (tt <- as.table(t(matrix(c(1,4,1 , 0,5,5, 3,1,5), ncol = 3)))) mcnemar.test(tt, correct=T) #And I get: McNemar's Chi-squared

realtime?
Has anyone tried to use Wine with realtime Linux? I am considering porting a system which currently runs under "realtime" NT to RT-Linux. The non-realtime portion is a GUI front end written with Borland C++ Builder, and I would prefer not to have to rewrite it. Is it feasible to run Linux as a low priority task under RT-Linux and to then run the windows app with Wine? Would the

Alternate file name hash for winver win31?
Filenames that don't conform to the 8.3 file name scheme of dos file systems are hashed by wine as expected on vfat file systems, using the function DOSFS_Hash. Yet, the rules for windows 3.1 were somewhat different. File name requests that didn't conform to the 8.3 scheme were simply truncated to fit. Evidence of this exists in the execution of S-Plus for windows 3.1. The program

Winetools is terrific
Yesterday, I finally jad an extended opportunity to try using wt to set up wine again. Last time I tried, ie wouldn't work when I got through. This time, it worked great. I am thinking that part of the problem was due to the time required for the download of IE, using the dialup connection. Winsserver timed out a number of times. By installing again, the downloaded stuff was already there,

wine-20010305 and serial port access
I'm trying to get the Windows-software for my digital camera to work in wine under Mandrake 8.0 (kernel 2.4.3). Installed wine without errors. Had a look at the ~/.wine/config and it looked ok for me. The part concerning the serial ports: [serialports] "Com1" = "/dev/ttyS0" "Com2" = "/dev/ttyS1" "Com3" = "/dev/ttyS2" "Com4"

Security question about suspect logfile entries
Hello, in the last days I found some entries in nmb.log on one of my servers: process_node_status_request: status request for name *<00> from IP 195.232.44.19 0 on subnet REMOTE_BROADCAST_SUBNET - name not found. (repeated many times) The host on this ip is not exactly in my domain :-) # nslookup Default Name Server: localhost Address: 127.0.0.1 > set type=PTR > 195.232.44.190 Name

Problem mapping drive names on Win95
Hi, in my Office, I'm trying to replace a Novell-server by a Linux-server. On the Novell-server, there is the SYS: volume. On this volume is a directory named DriveT. I did a map on it, so this SYS:DriveT was used as T: . If you link Excel sheets, which are stored on T:, to Word documents, Word unfortunately saves the UNC path, which is \\SERVER1\SYS\DRIVET instead of T: On my new Samba

dll issues
Hi all, Firstly, I wanted to say thanks to all of the developers that have spent so much time creating wine. I have a few questions though, my soon-to-be-father-in-law has requested that I erase windows on his computer and put linux on. That's all well in good, I've had quite a few years experience with linux. However, he does have a few windows programs for which there is no free

How to get IE6 stable?
Hello, I installed IE6 with both WineTools and IEs4Linux (under different user accounts). Most of the features work, but IE often hangs. Then I can only kill the process. Has someone got IE6 stable under WINE? If so, which WINE version do I have to use and how shall I configure it? Thanks in advance, Colin Finck

Problems with Self extracting zip files
Hi folks, I have a curious problem when executing self extracting zip files from a samba share. Everything does work, but it is very very slow. Copying the .exe onto local disk (from the samba share) takes no time at all (500kb/sec). I would say it takes about 10 times as long to unzip when run directly from the samba share. This happens will all self-extracting exe files, and also from any share
