My First Wine
I've been a Linux user for a few years now but this is my first taste of
Wine. Naturally, I've got a problem (leave it alone!). A transcript of
my wine session looks like this:
# wine --winver win95 /mnt/cdrom/railatlas.exe
FIXME:pthread_rwlock_rdlock
FIXME:pthread_rwlock_unlock
Could not stat /mnt/fd0 (No such file or directory), ignoring drive A:

Running DC++ 0.668 with wine-20041201
Hi all,
First of all, Thank jou guys for making windows programs run on linux! I've
been searching for a Direct Connect client that works in windows and linux.
The solution was to run DC++ on top of wine.
At first DC++ crashed a lot, but after disabling the 'progress bars for
transfer' at advanced options dc++ keeps running.
There are however a few things that doesn't work

bug in lastlog logging?
Folks;
I couldn't find anything on my archive of the mailing list on this,
and it may just be my mis-understanding, but:
When I "ssh machine1 -l user1" as user2 on machine2, if user2 has the
same uid on machine1, then user2's name ends up in lastlog, instead of
user1's.
This is a bit disconcerting when user2 is root, and root isn't allowed
to remotely log in on

Using rsync to mirror directories where root owns file, using non-root user to initiate session
I have spent a day researching and attempting to debug this issue. I am hoping someone can tell me how (or disabuse me of the delusion that it's possible) to do the following:
- Mirror the contents of a directory on one server to a remote server where there are diverse ownership and permissions
- File and directory ownership on both the source and destination servers would normally prevent

[LLVMdev] llvm.org outage
Dear LLVMers,
There is some scheduled network outages detailed below that affect the llvm.org servers and LLVM Mailing lists. The LLVM server is housed on the fourth floor. I am not sure which rooms house the mailing list servers. All times are Central Standard Time.
If someone from Illinois can distill the relevant parts of this message for LLVM users, I would be most appreciative. I am out

smbclient tar restore problem (linkflag) from tape-drive
Greetings,
I am currently having a problem using smbclient (Samba v2.05a)
running on Solaris 2.5.1 to restore a tar file from a tape drive
onto a Win NT share.
smbclient works successfully when using a tar file on disk,
but is skipping the tar file (created by a third party)
on the tape drive.
The command used is as follows:
smbclient //celeborn/test -U peter -T x /dev/rmt/0

User unable to log into Solaris when password has been expired by root
I have a question.
Our process for creating a new user account on our Solaris systems is to
force expire (passwd -f) the user's password so they have to chose their own
when they log in. However, since building OpenSSH 3.7.1p2 I find that new
users are unable to log in with the following syslog messages:
Oct 2 12:37:42 hostname sshd[1754]: User tester password has expired

Problem running anything in Wine.
So, I am new to Ubuntu, but not Linux itself as we use it at work (Gentoo). I'm trying to get WoW, Fallout 3, COD:MW, etc.... to install, but i get the following error.
The program Installer.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in Wine. You may want t check

Running Battlefield 1942 under Wine
Hi all!
I've just got a new machine (it's not great, but it was damn cheap), and I just put Ubuntu 11.10 on it. I wanted to get Battlefield 1942 running on it, as I'd had trouble with previous installs. I'd have hoped that it would be sorted by now, and I was encouraged by links on WineHQ with gold and platinum ratings for this game, reporting little or no errors.
I got the

Running Unity3D Editor with Wine
Hello!
I'm new to wine development - it pretty much has worked out of the box with
everything I needed. :)
I've been looking however to improve my current development workflow when
working with Unity 3D (can be downloaded for free at
http://www.unity3d.com). I've tried using it with Wine a couple of
times - to no avail. My
current workflow involves then running a virtual machine (and

.exe not running with Wine 1.1.42/Debian lenny but running fine with Wine 1.2/Ubuntu
Hi!
I am running a python script in Linux that calls an .exe file.
But I am getting the error message " cannot execute the binary file".
The Linux version that I am using is
Linux version 2.6.26-2-amd64 (Debian 2.6.26-25lenny1) (dannf at debian.org) (gcc version 4.1.3 20080704 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.2-25))
and the wine version is wine-1.1.42.
If I use instead,

How to turn off "plus" delivery
I use a lot of plus-style addresses (me+stuff at example.com), except I use underscore as the separator rather than plus (me_stuff at example.com). My mail logs are full of messages where dovecot looks for a mailbox named "stuff", fails, then delivers to my inbox. Is there a way to turn that off so that dovecot automatically delivers to my inbox?
Thanks!

map data.frame() data after having linked them to a read.shape() object
Dear all,
I try to first link data in a data.frame() to a (polygon) read.shape()
object and then to plot a polygon map showing the data in the
data.frame. The first linking is called "link" in ArcView and "relate"
in ArcMap. I use the code shown below, though without success.
Help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

strange behaviour of callNextMethod in S4 methods
Hello,
I experienced a strange behaviour of callNextMethod when used in either
initialize or any other S4 function method definition.
Help says callNextMethod calls the next inherited method for the current
function from where it is called with the same actual (non missing)
arguments. This is OK. The problem appears when some formal arguments
(in particular, S4 objects) of this function are
