DirectX in Wine
I've tried to install the game "Caesar 3" on my Linux-box. It worked fine during the installation. The problem appeared when I wanted to play it. Caesar 3 needed the file DDRAW.DLL I found out that it was one of DirectX's .dll-files. Isn't Wine supposed to work with DirectX without installing it? Doesn't Wine have its own "DirectX-clone"? What should I

Location of the config-file
I've installed Codeweavers WINE and everything works fine. But then I got the idea, I would like to have a global config-file so that every user would have the same configurations (unless they've made a ~/.wine/.config). Then I configured WINE and typed: cd /home/penguin/.wine/ cp .config /usr/local/etc cd /usr/local/etc mv .config wine.conf And it doesn't work. What am I supposed

wine : command not found
I downloaded this file http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/ALPHA/wine/development/Wine-20010510.tar.gz (it's the source code). Then I unpacked it as root and then I went into the "/root/wine-20010510"-directory. Then I typed ./tools/wineinstall (or something like that). And then it startet installing. When it was finished i edited my ~/.wine/config so that it would not automaticly

Multiple user application - won't work
Hi. I've installed the Windows-game, Caesar 3, through WINE. I installed it as the user pingvin and everything runs just fine. But then if I switch to any other user and configure WINE to fit them, and then try to run Caesar 3 - it doesn't work. I use Codeweavers WINE preview 3, the users config-files is in ~/.wine, my Wine directory is in /usr/local/wine and I have done the chmod -R

Help running Caesar 3
Hello, I'm trying to get Caesar 3 running on my linux machine, but it always hangs while loading. I installed Caesar 3 on my windows machine and them copied the files to the linux box, and updated the registry so it points to the right drives, etc. Wine works fine on other apps. When I try to run "wine c3.exe:" it starts up fine, and begins to load. It goes through several load

You can get updates from our live CVS tree, discuss DirectX specific issues on the 'WineX-devel' mailing list, etc. The SourceForge project page is at: http://sourceforge.net/project/winex The CVSROOT for CVS is:

Damn itcl to hell.
Hi, Sorry to bug people with this what must be a very trivial question. I've got a Mandrake 8.0 installation and have been trying in vain to get CodeWeavers Wine (preview #3) installed. I've downloaded and installed the 'blessed' version of itcl from the CodeWeaver's website (itcl-8.3.2-7mdk.i586.rpm) and am still getting the itcl not found error when I try to run winesetup.

My games go black
When I try to play Pharaoh (and sometimes Caesar 3) my screen becomes black and the only thing to do is Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. I think Wine is still running but the game has just stopped. Does Wine have some way of stopping the program it's running? Even when I don't have access to the Eterm window that I opened it in? Mikkel Mastrup

How to build WineX???
Hi all, I took the CVS from WineX (as mentioned on the transgaming.com Website). I downloaded fine and compiled fine. But: I have only a wine exec, but no winex. In the tools subfolder, there is a winex. But when I run it it just states, that some dirĀ“s are missing (/usr/lib/transgaming and so on). The exec winex is only a script, no bin. Does somebody know how to build a real winex with DX8

running an old build of wine?
I've noticed lots of people posting to this board running ancient versions of wine. Upgrading or replacing wine is easy..but I know some of you are slighty afraid of messing what you got set up already. There are current binaries, rpms, and source here http://www.winehq.com/download.shtml I recommend getting the CVS snapshot rpm (the one on top) or to just use cvs to get the source

installing/running Monkey Island 3 and 4
I have problems running Monkey Island 3 here. Installing it works fine, but the problems comes when trying to run it. When pressing "Play Game" (I think that's what the button says), the program just wants to install DirectX 5.0. I guess that trying to install it is NOT an option, when you're using wine. Second, installing Monkey Island 4 is not successful, because you have this

DirectX 8.0
Hi, I'm trying to install the game "Aquanox" under Wine which needs DirectX 8.0. I've found a mail in the wine mailing list archive stating that wine already includes DirectX, but Aquanox keeps complaining about a missing d3d8.dll. Trying to install DirectX 8.0, I end up with "DirectX couldn't be installed on this computer". Any hints on this one? Sebastian --

WineX compile problem
I am trying to get the latest CVS of WineX running on my box, Mandrake 8.1. I have run into a compile problem, and I am not having any luck finding anything about this. The configure and make depend go fine. During the make, I get the following error... gcc -c -I. -I. -I../../include -I../../include -g -O2 -Wall -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -fPIC -D__WINE__ -D_REENTRANT -I/usr/X11R6/include

Winehq / WineX?
I know this is an incredibly simple question, but I don't think I've seen anyone in this NG ask about it as best I can remember. Basically, what's the pros/cons of WineX over the standard version from Winehq? I have no problems with compiling from source, but in terms of application support and suchlike, could anyone with experience with both versions of WINE give any advice?
