wine on Mandrake 7.2
Hi, I managed to run United Devices client on Redhat 6.1 with wine-20010326 (after applying a patch that was posted here), but on Mandrake I get errors (below). It brings up the application, but sometimes gets stuck and doesn't open a System Tray window, as it does on the RedHat. (So once you "minimize" the app it's gone for good). Any help appreciated Zeev $

upgrading samba
Ladies and Gentlemen, I actually encounter a problem by setting up a linux box in a network so that it can print to a samba print server that also install on a linux box. I'm running Mandrake7.2 on my machine and have samba-2.0.7 installed. The print server runs a Redhad-5.1 and runs the samba-1.9.18. 1. Is there any problem for the two version to work together? 2. if yes, an alternative

Half-Life sound problem
Hi, finally got HL to run at 1024 in opengl. But there are some things which i'm not happy about: 1) Sound lags about 1 sec after the game, EAX doesn't work. 2) Some fonts don't get found (which messes up the scoreboard). I'm running Mandrake7.2 with kernel 2.4.2 and XFree 4.0.1 and nvidia's 0.9.6 drivers. Some things i've found out so far: Using the nvidia agp driver

Newbie's question
Hi guys, I've brand new to the R scene. I have hundreds of csv files that has field 1 ,YYYY/MM/DD as index How to generate a graph of distribution and calculate the standard deviation of field2 for all of the files in a directory? I'm wondering if R could do this. Thanks a lot. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Newbie%27s-question-tf3730746.html#a10442845 Sent from

Newbie's question about lm
Hello, I would like to fit data with the following formula : y=V*(1+alpha*(x-25)) where y and x are my data, V is a constant and alpha is the slope I'm looking for. How to translate this into R-language ? At the moment, I only know : lm(y ~ x) Sorry for such a basic question. I thought I could find the solution in a post but I have to confess that, up to know, I'm not able to understand

newbie's question : xyplot legend with a white background
Hello, Sorry in advance for adding a silly question on this forum but I haven't found the right keywords to find a solution to this basic problem. I'm just looking a way to have a white background behind the legend to hide the grid. Thanks in advance. The silly example for my silly question: xyplot(1~1, panel = function(x,y, ...) { panel.xyplot(x,y)

Simple xen devel project: try out new compression algorithm (with tmem)
If any new Xen developers are interested in a simple project to learn Xen development (and also Xen Transcendent Memory), it would be interesting to test this in Xen. AFAIK, the only extensive use of compression is with Transcendent Memory ("tmem"), so learning about tmem would be a useful side-effect. Thanks, Dan

ups not recognized by usbhid-ups
I've posted this before being subscribed but was thwarted by moderation. I have a new UPS, actual manufacturer unknown. It comes with USB and serial connections, and a CD with windows software and some old unix software for serial support only. I'm using pretty much bleeding edge linux, and I want to avoid rs-232 if possible. Am I hopelessly naive? This is what lsusb says: Bus 006

Newbie's doubt on sip.conf
Hi, I have some doubts on sip.conf. 1) Can I have two or more SIP phones acting as extensions in one Asterisk box, and at the same time, registered to a SIP proxy, say Free World Dialup? If yes, how? 2) Why we need a section in the sip.conf for the proxy, say, Free World Dialup's fwd.pulver.com? In the case of 1), how to assign the value to section [fwd.pulver.com], since there are more

Attention Mandrake Users
In their inimitable style, in their 9.2 release Mandrake have included a version of Shorewall that does not support the kernel module naming convention in that release. I suspect that similar problems will occur if you upgrade your 9.1 installation. You have two choices: a) edit /usr/share/shorewall/firewall and replace this line: for suffix in o gz ko ; do with for suffix in o gz ko

Shorewall and Mandrake 10.1
When I installed Mandrake 10.1, I have no probelms with it''s configuration and usage. However, I wanted to build a custom kernel with support for my built-in sound chip - as I was unable to get the audio to work. After I rebooted the new custom kernel, shorewall broke - no iptables in the kernel, even though iptables were configured in: CONFIG_IP_MULTIPLE_TABLES=y
