Ladies and Gentlemen, I actually encounter a problem by setting up a linux box in a network so that it can print to a samba print server that also install on a linux box. I'm running Mandrake7.2 on my machine and have samba-2.0.7 installed. The print server runs a Redhad-5.1 and runs the samba-1.9.18. 1. Is there any problem for the two version to work together? 2. if yes, an alternative solution could be to upgrade only the samba on the print server to samba-2.0.7. is it possible to do so? How can i perform it? Since i'm a newbie, i'd apreciate any help . thanks fotso
Hi samba 2.0.7 is running on our server. I would like to upgrade it to 2.2.1a. I have built all the binaries. Before starting new installtion, should i first kill nmbd and smbd daemons?.. save a copy of smb.conf?? or running "make install" is is going to take care of everything i.e., saving smb.conf, deleting/updating previous binaries/man pages/utility files... Well, it depends on what system you are running on, etc - I see messages all the time on the list about rpm problems in installing a new version of samba; but theoretically, you should stop smbd and nmbd (and swat, if you are using that) before you do the make, as on many systems, it will not be able to replace the smbd and nmbd files once it has made them and you do the make install, if the text files are busy (ie running). Good luck, Don -----Original Message----- From: Sreenidhi R Iyangar [mailto:srinidhi.iyangar@wipro.com] Sent: Thursday, October 11, 2001 5:19 AM To: samba@lists.samba.org Subject: Upgrading samba Hi samba 2.0.7 is running on our server. Upgrading from v2.0.7 to 2.2.8. We have various windows client machines with many users. Will they all need to remap their drives after the upgrade? Or how do we go about upgrading to prevent that?
Hello everyone! I just have a quick question. More or less a question and some advice seeking. Right now, I am currently setting up a Samba server to run as a PDC in our intranet. I am currently using 2.2.7-5 with Red Hat 8.0. I am extremely excited for Samba 3.0 to come out. I know that it most likely, the stable release will be out in a month or so? With that in mind, and being that I am running 2.2.7-5, how would one upgrade his PDC to 3.0? Bear in mind that my PDC is going to be mission critical, so I need to make sure that when I do upgrade, I can quickly upgrade to 3.0 and go about our daily routine. First: What recommendations does anyone have about upgrading Samba? Second: Any potential problems upgrading Samba 2.2.7-5 on a PDC to Samba 3.0? I appreciate everyones input. Best, Jason
