Re: How to discover within my application if executed in Wine?
I finally succedeed to show the icon from tray - the problem is that the hole application isn't hidden.
I use ShowWindow from user32:
ShowWindow(Application.Handle, SW_HIDE);
Is there a better way to hide it?

Guild Wars - Direct3D8 is not available without OpenGL.
Hello everyone!
As one might think from my subject line this thread seems to be about the usual no-32bit-OpenGL-libraries-installed issue, that Google is full of when you are looking for a solution.
My problem is a bit different: My system is 64bit, indeed, but the 32 bit graphics libraries/drivers are installed.
32bit native games like Enemy Territory run fine.
GuildWars starts with the

EPSXE under WINE.
Hello. This thread is to help anyone having problems with using EPSXE psx emulator in WINE.
EPSXE can work in WINE, only if you install directx in WINE. WINE alone does not have directx installed with it but EPSXE requires directx to function. You would need to install directx using any game which has "Install DirectX" or something similar. The redist packages for directx found online

DirectX: cab file cannot be trusted
When I'm trying to install DirectX, I get the following error at the beginning of installation process (after all confirmations):
> A Cabinet file necessary for the installation cannot be trusted
I have encountered this problem with multiple versions of wine and directx redistributables. I had no need in using directx for a long time, but looks like some features are not implemented for

failed to initialize directx in w7
I am not sure this issue is tight to Red Hat qxl GPU driver, but I
can't initialize directxX on a guest windows 7.
Trying to start a game, I get the error message :
Failed to initialize directX
Of course, directX is installed on the w7 guest, and properly.
The dxdiag command, a directx diagnostic tool, does not show any error.
Some summary under the video :

Dear readers,
I am using Fedora Core Linux 6 and Wine installed from rpm packages.
I haven't got Windows installed, so what files should I copy from a

Lots of love,

DirectX 8.0
Hi,
I'm trying to install the game "Aquanox" under Wine which needs DirectX 8.0.
I've found a mail in the wine mailing list archive stating that wine already
includes DirectX, but Aquanox keeps complaining about a missing d3d8.dll.
Trying to install DirectX 8.0, I end up with "DirectX couldn't be installed
on this computer".
Any hints on this one?

Forcing DirectX 8.1?
Hi. I'm running Debian Lenny, and I'm having a problem with Wine and playing TF2.
I used to be able to play TF2 under DirectX 8.1 before updating to the newest version, no problems. I didn't even have to use the option -dxlevel 81, it was already set to it when I looked under video settings in TF2.
However, with Wine 0.9.59, it seems that the DirectX that comes bundled with Wine is

DirectX problems
Hi,
Maybe you've talked about this many times before, but i've got a problem with
DirectX.
When i try to run any application that uses DirectX it just tells me that i
don't have it installed on my system. The fact is that i do have it
installed, and works fine in Windows ME, maybe the version is too recent? i'm
using DirectX 7.
My system is:

Automounting
Is there a way to make samba automatically mount a home directory?
That is, a user logging in (from Linux), enters its username and
password(Samba), and the system automatically mounts the user's home
directory from the samba server(without asking the password again).
Has anyone ever tried to do this? And succedeed :-) ?

Probs with wine/DirectX
So I got wine working.... sort of. I was never able to run 'wineinstall'
b/c if i try to run it under my ordinary login, it halts at 'config' and
says I don't have permission, but if I log in as root, I can change
directories to the /usr/src/wine/tools and I can see 'wineinstall' and
'config' as executable files (I even chmod a+x them to be sure) but when at:

DirectX questions
Hello all,
Many games include a DirectX bundle in their installation setup, therefore the WINE DirectX implementation becomes overriden when we test games. However, not only this prevent the testing of WINE's DirectX implementation, the bundle they install is usually outdated. I was wondering therefore if preventing the DirectX install is possible, and if yes, would it be useful for WINE

dxdiag - exits without success
Hi there. I'm trying to turn on DirectX in Wine. (please read whole message, and only after that blamming me).
Recently, I've used Gentoo and it's Wine. But after that, I switched to Fedora
and start using Fedora's Wine. Some programs load successfully, but not DirectX.
As I said before, everything was normal in Gentoo, but not in Fedora. (for both
I have amd64 (x86_64) arch).

Porting DirectX applications using Wine API
[Idea] [Idea] [Idea] [Idea] [Idea] [Idea]
Is there any way to take advantage from Wine API to port DirectX applications to other platforms?
If not, I think that a way to rise the interest of developers in using Wine to port their DirectX applications would be creating a LGPL framework that could allow people reuse their code in new platforms that do not support DirectX, like the iOS, Android and

DirectX in Wine
I've tried to install the game "Caesar 3" on my Linux-box. It worked fine
during the installation. The problem appeared when I wanted to play it.
Caesar 3 needed the file DDRAW.DLL
I found out that it was one of DirectX's .dll-files. Isn't Wine supposed
to work with DirectX without installing it? Doesn't Wine have its own
"DirectX-clone"?
What should I

DirectX 8
I have Wine-20010112 in a RedHat7 box and I'm a butt newbie in wine. :)
I've installed succesfully the game 'Shatered Galaxy' but the graphics
are weird, it looks like a directx problem to me, so I tryed to install
the latest DirectX 8 that I found in M$.com but it says something like
'This version of DirectX can't run in your Operating System'. Anyone

Did DirectX apps suffer regressions?
Some days ago I had installed wine 1.3.7 on Debian Stable "Lenny" AMD64. I could play DirectX games fine.
Yesterday I installed Wine 1.3.11 on Debian Testing "Squeeze", and all DirectX apps crashed on startup. Then, I tested on Wine 1.1.4 and 1.2, but none made these apps work...
Next, I tried on Wine 1.0, and worked!
Also I tried under Wine 1.2 on Ubuntu 10.10, but

NOLF2 - Registry key?
Glad to see the work that has progressed so far with wine, especially in
the area of DirectX implementation.
So, with that in mind I compiled a fresh copy of 20050830 and began
testing my games. Started with an oldie but a goodie, No One Lives
Forever 2. Usually I couldn't even get past the opening screen. This
time, the game attempts to launch, but then a window pops up and says:
