Hi I don't want that Windoze programms write to my {HOME} directory (Drive Y). I find better a separate directory like {HOME}/.wine/cfg.windoze for .ini, cfg, .log, and other files. I would like to see Mame/32 working in Wine, however, it uses a couple of VxDs to do some things (I think it is timing and joysticks). Normally VxD's do not work in Wine, but Mame/32 is open source. With access to the source code of the VxD's, would it be possible to modify the VxD files to work with Wine? If so, what would need to be done to make the VxD drivers work with Wine?

In order to write a program like wine, you must have a good knowledge of windows and how it works. Would it be possible to write something that would tell Linux how to understand VXDs or WDMs, or write a kernel module that can use them? (I assume there is a reason it hasn't been done yet, but I don't have enough understanding to know why). Thanks Chris

Greetings, I have been trying to install Cool Edit Pro 1.2. I'm running Mandrake 8.1, which came with Wine release 20010731. This is a dual-boot system with MS-DOS 6.22 in addition to Mandrake 8.1. There NO version of Windoze of any kind is installed. I have 512 MB of RAM; the DOS partition has 941 MB free and 777 permissions. I mount the CD-ROM drive, cd to it, and execute wine setup.exe
