If Wine isn't am emulator how does it work
Sorry about this noob question, but this is something that has been boring me. So Wine is a compatibly layer that tricks windows based apps into working on Linux. But isn't that what an emulator does? I know emulators more typically visualize the hardware which uses more recesses, but there are also high level emulators which just create the environment. isn't any software that tricks a

Hello all, I've got Unz (FM Towns emulator) running under wine but its not capable of reading the original FM Towns CDROM images on my Mac. I have it working under Windows XP using Daemon Tools to mount the ISO but under OSX it does not work. I have the ISO mounted under finder and have pointed my wine configuration to the mount point. No luck. Has anyone successfully got this running under

ETerm32 Terminal Emulator
I installed Wine from Synaptic and then installed a Windows terminal emulator program called ETerm32. As I understand, mainly, it provides the keyboard translations for a VT320 terminal so I can connect and function on a VMS-based server/application. Running ETerm32 under Wine, I can connect to the server which displays a Username prompt. After typing the user name and hitting <ENTER>,

Nintendo DS emulator randomly crashing
Hi. After playing NO$Zoomer (the emulator's name) for some time I'm getting random crashes that come out of the blue, which are not so usual, but since the emulator doesn't support savestates they're annoying. I'm playing and suddenly it freezes and, after aprox 2 minutes it says the program found a problem and must close (crash). Here's the Wine log: Code:

OT: Supporting mainframe terminal emulator activex controls in IE under Linux?
[This is really just a post-it note to myself, but I'm cc'ing it to wine-users in case it's useful to others.] I was told recently that a company wanted to migrate some desktops to Linux, but ended up not being able to because they had a web-based application that 1) required IE, and 2) used an ActiveX control that implemented a 5250 terminal emulator to connect to a mainframe

Difference Between WINE and an Emulator
I've got someone who doesn't understand that WINE Is Not an Emulator and apparently doesn't get the FAQ on the site. I personally don't use WINE (still being on Windows kinda avoids the need), so I don't really have the knowledge to argue this much farther. Here's his latest point (formating in clasic usenet style below), I need something simple that says,

Which wine do I download?
Ok, This is kind of a stupid question. I've worked with Windows for awhile, but I really don't like it. Linux was suggested by a friend of mine. I've got Linux Mandrake 7.1 deluxe, and I'm not sure which version of wine I should download. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanx. Jeremiah Holland Emperoroftheice5@cs.com

Running the Wine emulator on CentOS 7
Hi, Up until recently, I've been running Wine 1.6.2 on my workstation under Slackware64 14.1. I used it to emulate a handful of legacy apps that ran under Windows XP. They worked perfectly with that setup. After migrating the workstation from Slackware to CentOS 7, I installed the Wine packages, but none of my applications run. I only get an error message about "wrong EXE
