Stupid question: where is the Preferences box?
Good day!
I am GUI-challenged, and proud of it, but I would like a bit of help.
When I start netscape (picked from an Earthlink CD) it raises a message
box that says (this is picked from --debugmsg +text and folded for
mailing convenience):
trace:text:DrawTextExW L"Error: temporary directory E: does not exist.
Please enter a new directory in the preferences box.", 99 ,

Damn itcl to hell.
Hi,
Sorry to bug people with this what must be a very trivial question. I've got
a Mandrake 8.0 installation and have been trying in vain to get CodeWeavers
Wine (preview #3) installed. I've downloaded and installed the 'blessed'
version of itcl from the CodeWeaver's website (itcl-8.3.2-7mdk.i586.rpm) and
am still getting the itcl not found error when I try to run winesetup.

can wine be run as daemon
I noticed that when i launched WINWORD.EXE the first
time it took about 20 seconds to load, but when i ran
it on the 2nd time it took about 10 seconds only!, it
seems that it is now cached in the memory...I was
wodering if it is possibe to load wine as a daemon so
that it will
be faster to load? sort of like a daemon? does my
analogy here make sense?
I would appreciate any help, comments,

samba and case switching.
Hello,
I'm using samba 2.05a on my slackware linux box and have just noticed
something very weird. When I copy a file via network neighborhood in 98
to my home directory on the linux box the file is converted to all
uppercase. Under windows even though it isn't case sensitive the first
letter of each word is capitalized, but when I look at the files under
linux they're all in

samba and unix password sync?
Hello,
I'm using redhat linux 6.2, and freebsd 4.0-release, both of which are
running samba 2.06. I'd like to sync up the nt and unix password files,
I've added
unix password sync = yes
but that has no effect.
Any ideas?
Dave.

codeweavers-wine:itcl problem
codeweavers-wine-20010112-1 hung during install (rpm) at
the creation of KDE/Gnome menus; since I don't use either,
I thought, no prob and ran winesetup from Blackbox.
I skipped re-making the links on starting winesetup and
went right for the configuration. which also failed. This
is the message it generated:

Wine Setup
I am a complete newbie to Wine. I am aware of the wonderful things OTHER
people can get it to do as far as running MS apps, but I have never had
such sucess.
The last attempt to run "winesetup" as root was met with the following:
debian:/home/tilleyrw# whoami
root
debian:/home/tilleyrw# winesetup

smbmount 2.06 problem with uppercase conversion.
Hello,
I'm using samba 2.06 and smbmount 2.06, though this problem was
consistent on my 2.05 installation of samba on my slackware 7.0 machine.
I've got a slackware cd-rom, which I've loaded in to a 98 machine and
shared it as cdrom. I've then gone to my linux system, which does not
have a rom and done:
smbmount //host/cdrom /cdrom
which after a minute of spin up time finds and

Hello,
I've got roaming profiles set up on my machines, that load and run
netlogon scripts that do various things. I would like there output
suppressed, i.e. I don't want to even see the dos box, I just want the
things to do there job and go on. Is this possible?
Thanks.
Dave.
