Damn itcl to hell.
Hi, Sorry to bug people with this what must be a very trivial question. I've got a Mandrake 8.0 installation and have been trying in vain to get CodeWeavers Wine (preview #3) installed. I've downloaded and installed the 'blessed' version of itcl from the CodeWeaver's website (itcl-8.3.2-7mdk.i586.rpm) and am still getting the itcl not found error when I try to run winesetup.

codeweavers-wine:itcl problem
codeweavers-wine-20010112-1 hung during install (rpm) at the creation of KDE/Gnome menus; since I don't use either, I thought, no prob and ran winesetup from Blackbox. I skipped re-making the links on starting winesetup and went right for the configuration. which also failed. This is the message it generated: Error: Invoking 'wish Main.itcl' in /opt/wine/bin/winesetuptk

From a newbie: how to run MS Word?
Hi! Half an hour ago I installed wine-20041201 under Mandrake Linux 9.1, successfully I think. On my PC I also have a partition with Windows 98 in it, correctly mounted. I installed Wine with the main purpose of properly writing and reading documents in MS Word, since neither kword, nor Open Office kwrite nor even abiword achieve this purpose in a satisfaying way. Now, probably I haven't

Re: Office 2007 Programs will not Launch
Hello, I am new to wine altogether and find myself experiencing this same problem. I've read through this posting and taken all the advice into account...My install of Office is clean, and I selected to ONLY install word. Also I do not have winetricks installed (or know where to install it from, so I'm glad it's not needed). Terminal output: root at walt-laptop:~# wine

Download and installation of the 7.2 version appears to go fine - until i give the command wine -v I do understand there is not a config file with the distribution. However when i start wine -v and take the option to setup config it fails twith a message can't find package Itcl and also says the config file does not exist.

Current state of MS Office 2003?
I installed Office 2003 in Wine without any winetricks or native DLLs. Excel works great, Word crashes a lot and can't save. What's the current best attempt to get Word 2003 to work in Wine? I see the AppDB shows no ideas on getting it working ... It's supported in CrossOver, so it should be possible in winehq Wine! Has anyone got Word working? - d.

plain DOS
Hi! I just hear you talking about programs like UT or winword, requiring either a 3D rendering engine or a million DLLs. But has anyone of you ever successfully started a plain DOS Program like MS edit.com or duke3d? Whenever i try anything like that wine runs into an infinite loop and does nothing but produce cpu load and > fixme:pthread_kill_other_threads_np messages... With some programs i

aggregate() runs out of memory
I have a large data.frame Z (2,424,185,944 bytes, 10,256,441 rows, 17 columns). I want to get the result of table(aggregate(Z$V1, FUN = length, by = list(id=Z$V2))$x) alas, aggregate has been running for ~30 minute, RSS is 14G, VIRT is 24.3G, and no end in sight. both V1 and V2 are characters (not factors). Is there anything I could do to speed this up? Thanks. -- Sam Steingold

Insert Symbol not working in MS Office 2007 Word
Whenever I insert a symbol in Word 2007, it crashes. It doesn't crash in PowerPoint 2007 or Excel 2007. This is because a dialog box comes up instead whilst in Word, it is more of a drop down menu. This is my counsel output: Code: wine winword.exe fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation 0x110000 1 (nil) 0 fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation 0x110000 1 (nil) 0 fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation 0x110000 1 (nil)

Repost: Temporary files with word
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I have a strange problem with samba 3.0.14a. One of my users is experiencing a lot of temporary files created by winword 2003. Winword does delete the temp files under any other userid. The only difference I know of is that the problematic user was created after the automatic switch from samba 2.2.8a to 3.0.14a (during an upgrade from debian woody
