Firefox 68 jnlp files
It seems that firefox 68.x, as distributed with CentOS6 updates, no longer allows opening jnlp files with javaws The "Choose Helper Application" window popping up after selecting "Open with/Other" has a predefined list of applications that cannot be customised. I'm sure it must be a configuration issue as this works fine with the same browser on other distributions, but

EPEL not working ... is it just me?
This is very strange - has been happening the last few days. I just upgraded this system from 5.3 to 5.7 on Monday and the problem started some time after that (but not immediately because I know I used yum Monday evening after the upgrade) I get the following error from yum, but it goes away if I --disablerepo=epel The funny thing is that the listed xml file I can easily wget from this

Kerio Mail Server - anyone?
Hey guys, I'm trying to install the latest Kerio and it seems to want an older version of libstdc++ which I cannot find anywhere in RPM land (sorry, but I just know gmail is going to mangle this on its way out ) [root at localhost ~]# rpm --install /home/amckay/kerio-kms-6.7.3-7892.linux.i386.rpm error: Failed dependencies: libstdc++.so.5 is needed by kerio-kms-6.7.3-7892.linux.i386

Firefox 68 jnlp files
icedtea-web package included with the distros is the plugin that handles javaws for firefox for both RHEL/CentOS 6 and 7 and openjdk. I have yet to find an app that cannot use openjdk instead of oracle java. It may be a little less streamlined, but it's functional. Ignore/cancel any pop ups that talk about updating java. If I missed this answer, I apologize as I receive the digests.

Firefox 68 jnlp files
Not knowing what kind of server management you're looking for I can only make general suggestions. We found that the removal of Java support (actually NSAPI in favor of the Pepper API which Oracle has stated they won't support) left us with limited IPMI (iLO, DRAC, whatever) functionality. And, looking at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_Web_Start, Oracle has stopped supporting javaws.

recommend benchmarking SW
Hey folks, We've got some new hardware and are trying to figure out what best to do with it. Either run CentOS right on the bare metal, or virtualize, or several combination options. Mainly looking at : - CentOS on bare metal - CentOS on ESXi 4.0 with local disk - CentOS on ESXi with 1 VM running Openfiler to serve disk to other VMs And want to benchmark these 3 scenarios So far all we

Rsync rules for Shorewall
Hi folks, I''m having an issue with rsync between my firewall and an internal box. It seems to be a shorewall issue (or correctly speaking, an issue with my shorewall config) because if I disable shorewall my rsync works fine. And I just can''t find it documented anywhere what I need to do. I have rules like this : root@userver:/etc/shorewall# grep -i Rsync rules

auth problem with dovecot-1.0.beta5
Hey folks, Let me start by saying I really love what I see so far! Dovecot seems to be extremely feature-rich, and unlike a lot of free software the documentation is extremely good! I gave up on courier IMAP because of the poor documentation, and I have to say Dovecot sure differentiates itself in that area! Unfortunately I still can't get it going :-/ First thing I noticed is that

java annoyances
Fresh install on a brand new box (Dell Precision 3500) of 5.6. I install Sun java-1.6.0_26-b03, Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode) Then ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-sun-1.6.0.26.x86_64/jre/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins about:plugins shows java enabled (oddly enough, I seem to have flash, 32-bit, in the 32 bit libs, and that doesn't show; guess

Can't get JRE 1.6U18 to run
Hi, I have installed WINE 1.1.32 on fedora 12 and I am trying to get Sun Java JRE running but have a few issues: If I pick up the JRE installer .EXE file, it fails to install and this seems to be down to a heap space allocation error. I have found a few posts around the Internet about this but nothing gets me towards a fix. What I am actually trying to do is run a jnlp installer package and if

Suddenly OpenVPN not working - backgrounds prompt for username / password
Hi folks, I'm on a fresh install of CentOS 7 and take my config that works on Ubuntu on the same box. Instead of getting a prompt for username and password for the VPN I get a backgrounded task that spits this out : [amckay at centos-gig ~]$ sudo openvpn --config /home/amckay/data/vpn.ovpn --daemon Broadcast message from root at centos-gig (Sat 2015-07-25 22:59:13 EDT): Password entry

forcing yum to download but not install
Hey folks, Is there any way to fake a "yum update" just to get yum to force a download of all the files it needs, without actually installing them. I finally have a RPM cache/proxy working and I just want to populate it. The server I want to actually update cannot be updated until tomorrow but I'd like to do a fake update just to force the RPMs into my cache so they will all be

my local mirror stopped working
Hey folks, I've had a local mirror set up for some time now and it has always worked, but suddently stopped. I don't think the fact that it stopped work has anything to do with when I blew away that machine and changed it from Centos 5.3 to a Fedora Core 11 box. But I'm not sure how that could make any difference since it is just serving that stuff over the web. It still works

biggest disk partition on 5.8?
Hey folks, I have a Sun J4400 SAS1 disk array with 24 x 1T drives in it connected to a Sunfire x2250 running 5.8 ( 64 bit ) I used 'arcconf' to create a big RAID60 out of (see below). But then I mount it and it is way too small This should be about 20TB : [root at solexa1 StorMan]# df -h /dev/sdb1 Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sdb1 186G 60M

biocep project (R for the Web and the Virtual R Workbench)
Dear all, I have been writing during last year at the European Bioinformatics Institute a general unified open source solution for R integration. This work is now available via this link: http://www.ebi.ac.uk/microarray-srv/frontendapp/ The different frameworks and tools of the biocep project are now robust enough for production use. The different APIs are finalized but the documentation is
