CentOS5 pam_mkhomedir
I have a problem creating homedirs on the fly. Since RHEL5 / CentOS5 you have to use pam_oddjob_mkhomedir instead of pam_mkhomedir. Everything is working (the homedir is created) but two things. First on every logon I get the following error message, and I don't know how to fix it: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name com.redhat.oddjob was not provided by any .service files

Can''t boot HVM Win2k8 R2 x64 DVD ISO (Viridian?)
Hi all, I''m stuck with a peculiar problem. I have CentOS 5.5 and Xen. I have numerous Windows 2003 guests and never had this problem. An application requires SQL server 2008 which is requiring Windows Server 2008. I downloaded the 2.8 Gig install DVD ISO. I create a new guest and connect the ISO as hdc. The system starts and says "Starting Windows" but hangs and no

Integrating samba with existing AD
Hi everyone, I am currently trying to set-up a samba server in my network in order to replace the existing windows samba server. It's been now two weeks that I am struggling with a vicious problem, and I cannot see any issue right now. Before I loose all my hairs, I am sharing with you this problem : hopefully, someone will have a tip for me. The software involved : Server Linux

samba 3 performance with windows 7 workstations
My customer has a Centos Linux 5.10 server running Samba 3. (Samba version 3.0.33-3.40.el5_10) The machine is about three years old. I suggested that they should consider replacing it with a Centos 6 machine and Samba 4, but they decided as it was doing its job without any issues to keep it as is. I also suggested updating to samba3x but they decided not to do this. I recently installed a centos

Buggy SATA detection w/CentOS5 + Intel H6300ESB?
I've been handed a Supermicro system that is using the Intel? H6300ESB Serial ATA Controller (Supermicro P4SCI motherboard). When I install CentOS5, everything seems to work OK, but it has absolutely horrid disk performance. Upon further inspection, it seems that the SATA disks are being treated as legacy IDE devices using PIO. Gah.... Has anyone else had this problem? I recall having

sudo (+ldap+kerberos) not accepting password
So I have this centos 5.10 box which authenticates network users against ldap(authorizing)+kerberos(authentication). And I now would like to have sudo be able to allow admins (netgroup chinbeards) to sudo about. I am not using sssd though (yet). Here is the output of me trying sudo (debug on): [raub at centos5-x64 ~]$ sudo pwd LDAP Config Summary =================== uri

CentOS 6 smb authentication?
I have some services on Centos5 boxes that use smb authentication against the Windows domain as a low-maintenance way to handle most of our office users for things that don't need home directories (web/file shares, etc.). Running authconfig is all it takes to add it to PAM, then adding mod_auth_pam to apache makes it work with that and local users. This all works without any particular

Rebuilding samba3x rpms results in size doubled
Hi, I have rebuilt samba3x SRPM in Centos 5.5. The resultings RPM's are nearly in triple size of the original RPMs. I have installed and checked the binary files are stripped. What can result in such difference in RPM sizes? I have not changed anything on built and install sections of spec file. Regards, Some files and sizes in original samba3x rpm: -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 17904 Mar 31

XEN Paravirtualized CentOS5 beta on CentOS5 beta
Dear All, I'm trying to install CentOS5 beta as paravirtualized guest on a CentOS5 Xen host using virt-manager. Everything seems to go OK. I'm able to run virt-manager and fill-out all the details. Because you can only do a http/ftp/nfs install when setting up a paravirtualized guest using virt-manager, I made the whole contents of the CentOS5 beta DVD available via ftp. The start of

Issues with stat() call on CentOS5 vs CentOS4
Dear CentOS, I have recently upgraded several servers from CentOS4 to CentOS5 and I am noticing a strange change to the stat() call. I have written a very small program to test and show the behavior. I am calling stat() against a file which is exported from my NAS and mounted with 32k read/write sizes. [dougalb at centos4 tmp]$ cat my_stat.c #include <unistd.h> #include <stdio.h>

samba version to use on CentOS?
I see via yum that there is "samba" and there is "samba3x" available for CentOS (my boxes are hooked to the main CentOS repo, Fedora EPEL, and RPMFORGE). 'samba' is 3.0.33 'samba3x' is 3.3.8 Is there any down-side to upgrading to 'samba3x' and running 3.3.8 instead of 3.0.33? I'm assuming that, in general, I should be running the latest

Missing libexif update for Centos5
Hi, could it be that the libexif update to 0.6.13-4.0.2 for Centos5 somehow got forgotten? The updates for Centos4 were released nearly two weeks ago. In the meantime also lots of other updates showed up for both Centos4 and Centos5, but still no libexif update for Centos5. Best regards, Bernd.

Winbind vs pam_krb5/nss_ldap
Hi all, I am just after some opinions about the pros and cons of winbind compared to the 'standard' kerberos and ldap methods. I've have already got single sign on working with pam_krb5 and nss_ldap (using SASL/GSSAPI) against SBS 2003 (with MSSFU 3.0) using Debian Sarge as clients/'member servers', and integration of Samba is the next bit I'm looking at. The impressions

rsync bug with --relative and --delete fixed in CentOS5?
Yohoo! I'm using rsnapshot-1.3.0-1.el5.rf (from DAG) and rsync-2.6.9-1.el5.rf (from CentOS5) together. Rsnapshot now starts every task with the "--relative" switch. Without this switch it will backup all subsequent folders (like /proc and so on) which isn't desired. So I can't omit the "--relative". But there was a bug for rsync prior to 2.6.9 that it won't

Does sprof work on CentOS5?
No matter how I try, I can't seem to get a library profile from sprof on CentOS5. Does anyone know if sprof actually works on CentOS5? I'd be very interested to hear if anyone is using it successfully. At the moment I'm trying something like this to get the dump: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. LD_PROFILE=libmy.so ./mymain where libmy.so is the library I want to profile, and mymain is the
