TIP for broken ARIN whois
This works for me on Centos 5.6. It may assist newcomers to the Linux
world of Centos.
whois 51.51.51.51
produces a normal and conventional display of data.
However since ARIN, the North American registrar of IP addresses,
"modernised" its WHOIS processing, a query to
whois 64.64.64.64
will produce a one line summary of possible matches, which always
includes ARIN, but omits the

Linux HA may not be the best choice in yoursituation. High Availability using 2 sites
In a nutshell and very first of all, you need at least 2 internet
connections. Those ISP must be willing to setup BGP peering between
your routers and theirs. Once that agreement has been made, you need to
get their AS Numbers and submit the ASN request located on ARIN's
website (http://www.arin.net). After some paperwork and money
exchanges, ARIN assigns you an AS number. At that point,

One final consideration I forgot to mention, make sure you have a beefy
router. Depending on your BGP configurations, if you want to receive
all routes from the internet, that can seriously bog down a low end
router. I'm not saying you can't get by with a low-end router, just
make sure your router can handle the results of your BGP configs.

appreciated.

My Centos 6 wodim tell me that it can only format DVD+RW.
I have DVD-RWs.
Even when I format a DVD-RW on my standalone DVD recorder,
wodim still will not write to it.
Is there a centos-6-useable mechanism
for formatting and writing DVD-RWs?

Error: An unusual circumstance has arisen in the nesting of readline input
Hi,
If I have warnings converted to errors, and if I plot a simple plot and
then resize and move the plot's window many times, I eventually get an
error "Display list redraw incomplete", and after a while an endlessly
repeating error "An unusual circumstance has arisen in the nesting of
readline input".
I cannot stop it using Ctrl-C (Ctrl-Z works though).

$HOME/.ssh/config is ignored
Hi,
By default the configure script has this option enabled:
--enable-suid-ssh
Could it be disabled by default in the case where openSSH is not
installed by root?
I'm in the peculiar situation where I had to install OpenSSH as a
regular user to be able to connect to outside machines. I've built
OpenSHH without specifying "--disable-suid-ssh":
$ /usr/ucb/whoami
papadopo
$ ls

Equivalents of Novell ROS and RWS ?
I am setting up my first production Samba/Linux server and so far I have
not found equivalent settings for Novell's ROS and RWS flags.
I guess it's some combination of:
share modes ( "NEVER" to be turned off)
ole locking ( safe for Linux?)
blocking locks
fake oplocks ( should be off? )
locking ( "should never need to set

Greetings,
I am using R version 2.11.1 on a Dell computer, via a VMware connection to a remote server. My browser version is IE 8.0.6001.18702 and the OS is some corporate version of Microsoft XP.

winbind and group permissions
Hello,
I have spent the last week and a bit searching google and reading
documentation trying to get this figured. At this point, I have read
the same things so many times, I am not even sure I would notice the
answer any more.... time to ask for some help.
Having gone through what seems like hundreds of posts, I have begun to
