file or website upload scripts / programs and security protection
Holiday Greetings! Ummmmm scenario is centos 4.5 standard apache webserver I have a client that is really struggling with website file upload concepts. Ive been googling for some scripts or other programs that allow uploading of files to proper directory(ies) after authentication I am definitely concerned about security issues of course. httpd and robots.txt
would anyone out there care to share their robots.txt experience using centos as a webserver and their robots.txt files? i realize this is a somewhat simple exercise, yet i am sure there are both large and small hosters out there and possibly those that have high traffic modify their robots.txt files differently that others ??? please share if you can or care to please? for years we have just

semi OT: logwatch results
Semi Off Topic My searching hasn't found what I consider superior info, and we are wondering from others experience on this list... In the logwatch results we all see the info below on almost a daily basis I have taken the liberty of combining logwatch results from centos 4 and 5 machines for extra info and future searchability ----- Centos 4 ----- --------------------- httpd Begin

inexpensive / reasonably priced workstation / server development box
We are testing some simple low bandwidth video and audio broadcasting using real server and client softwares. So, for quick check and simplicity, we were plunking along TESTING on an 3.2GHz XP box and I noticed frames were getting dropped on the broadcast just for resizing a window on the screen during the session. Talk about totally lame... I know this can be a big deal and start conflicting

KMail
Any hope of KMail (and Kontact) coming to CentOS-7? What exactly is the problem? KMail seems to work on other Linux OS's. -- Timothy Murphy gayleard /at/ eircom.net School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin

Evolution: always a 90-second delay
I'm trying to use Evolution on the latest CentOS 7. Whenever I try to receive or send mail, there's always a 90-second delay before the connection works. Since the delay is always exactly 90 seconds, I think I may be waiting for something to time out. Perhaps this is a clue. My address is user at example.com. I have to log in to pop.example.com or imap.example.com as user, not as user at

which e-mail client can work with recent dovecot?
Hi, I'm trying to use dovecot-1.0.rc7. Before I've used dovecot-1.0 from nightly cvs build of August 08, 2006. It worked perfectly, on Linux 64-bit, you can see spec and patches at http://www.sisyphus.ru/srpm/dovecot/ When I tried to upgrade to rc7 and to recent nightly cvs builds with the same configuration and patches (provided necessary adaptations), it builds O.K, but can not move

simple script idea
Hi there... Foolish me.... all was going sooooooo well and then I got a wild hair and updated to the latest clamav .92 today. It is possible I should have just done an rpm update install yet there were some changes in ClamAV lately and I didn't know how well that would go. up till now I spec'd and rolled my own Clamav RPMs without milter somewhat recently ClamAV changed from having a

Too stupid for sieve (former maildrop user)
Hello, I just migrated from Postfix/Courier/Maildrop to Postfix/Dovecot/Deliver/Sieve and don't unterstand the right syntax for sieve :( I searched and found many small examples and many links to the RFC, but nothing was usefull for me (or i didn't unterstand it) I installed the latest Dovecot-Sieve (hg). Examples from my maildrop config: # Filter FROM if($E =~ /name at domain1\.tld/)

mail tools preferences?
We don't have enough arguments here.... <g> I see that thunderbird's deprecated for RHEL 7, and they recommend evolution. I've certainly had some annoyances in the last couple-three years with t-bird. So, what are people's preferred mail tools, other than t-bird (or maybe mutt or pine.... <g>)? mark

smbmount discontinued?
In a past thread I've notice that smbmount (and mount's suport for it) will be discontinued and smbclient should be used insted. Sorry if the question is too lame but I use it in some of my systems now and I think I'll have trouble porting then to smbclient. Is smbmount been removed because it relays on kernel smb support? Samba will not need smb support in kernel in the

Mutually exclusive Exim setup instructions
The correct way has to be one or the other: http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Exim are mutually exclusive with http://wiki.dovecot.org/HowTo/DebianStable It appears that exim can either call dovecot's LDA or make the delivery itself. There may be good reasons to do it one way or the other. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Karl Schmidt

Email access via Android device
I'm pretty sure that this is possible, but I don't currently know enough about email to know where to start. My main desktop computer runs Centos 6 and my preferred email client is Sylpheed, which supports both POP and IMAP email, and my "internal network" has a static IP address, so getting access to the computer from the big scary world via my phone isn't a problem. (Solved) Re: Upgrade path from MySQL to MariaDB broken? (Akonadi)
Hello! I've found it out, how you can solve/work around the problem: Nextcloud needs MariaDB. It won't work (so it seems) with MySQL. So mariadb- server needs to be installed. This replaces MySQL (mysql-server-core-5.7 and mysql-client-core-5.7) with MariaDB. The problem is that after that, Akonadi won't start any longer. "aconadictl start" outputs a lot of messages.

cross-platform email client
I'm a Thunderbird user almost since day one, but now I'm looking for something else. For whatever reason, it doesn't work well for me - every once in a while it becomes non-responsive (UI completely frozen for several seconds, CPU usage goes to 100%) and I just can't afford to waste time waiting for the email software to start working again. My main desktop platform is Linux,

immediate delete of mails
Hello all! I've got a home server running on an ARM Cortex-A7 with my custom Linux distribution. It's also responsible for handling incoming and outgoing mails. The SMTP server is OpenSMTPD-6.0.3p1. I'm using Dovecot-2.3.2.1 to export the mails (mailbox storage format) using IMAP. My old server used to have Dovecot-1.2.0 and honestly, it was absolutely sufficient for me. However,
