CentOS 6: Making KDE Default
I learned from Anne that if I boot to level
5, after I enter the username, can select
Gnome or KDE. I note that the default is
always Gnome.
How can I make the default KDE?
How can I get KDE with startx after booting to level 3?
Thanks,
Mike.

Centos 6: howto install and run KDE
On my laptop, I have not been able to get KDE to run; I
always get gnome. I installed selecting KDE, and I tried
yum groupinstall, which appeared to work, but I still get
gnome running. BTW, I boot to level 3, and run startx.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Mike.

CentOS 6 KDE: remove default icons
On my newly installed CentOS 6 I am running KDE (I think; I selected it
in the setup, but how would I know?). It has three default icons:
Computer; Root's Home; Trash. I do not see them in /root/Desktop.
How can I remove them?
Thanks,
Mike.

KDE panel configuration
I am running CentOS 4.2 with KDE 3.5.1 from kde-redhat.org. I am not
able to configure the panels:
control center -> desktop -> panels
comes up, but is empty. Only the frame and the buttons on the bottom
show. KDE 3.5.1 on Kubuntu does not have that problem.
Has anyone that same problem?

kde 4.3 beta 2, compiz 8.2 - panel pager doesn't work until plasma crash and restart
Listmates,
Woking with compiz 8.2 on kde 4.3 beta 2 on Archlinux, the plasma "kicker"
pager widget does not work correctly after compiz 8.2 is started. Before
compiz is started you see the 4 small desktop representations stacked 2x2.
After you start compiz, the panel only shows a single large pane 'Desktop 1'
no matter what desktop you are on.
The strange part is that

In KDE 4, I click:

I get a popup informing me that my system is not supported.
(This did not happen before.) I am offered choices.
I choose RedHat 6.0 (Is this wrong? I also tried
RedHat 9.0.).
I select Network Interfaces. I see nothing on the list

CentOS 6, KDE 4: bad DNS traffic
On my new CentOS 6, KDE 4, running WireShark I see what appears
to be frequent nonsensical DNS queries, for example:
"settings-personal.desktop" and "settings-system.desktop".
The DNS response is always:"No such name". Do tell!
These appear especially when I click on things on the KDE
menus. On my old CentOS 5 box, on the same LAN, I see no
such thing. I note

Set panel background color in a multi-group trellis plot
Hi everyone,
I am trying to change some of the default colors in a
multipanel-multigroup lattice graphic, but when I change the panel color
to white, the only group that is plotted is the last one, as panel.fill
overwrites all the previous ones. Is there any way to set the panel
background color for the first panel to a color and keep the rest
transparent?
My code looks like this:

Override col.lines and col.symbol in panel.xyplot with type='b'
Dear useRs,
I have a longitudinal experiment with several treatment groups, ~20 subjects per group, ~6 timepoints and a continuous dependent variable. I have been successfully been using lattice::xyplot with this data. However, I have been stumped with a particular application of it.
I would like to use xyplot on my data, broken into treatment groups with the groups argument, using

How do I default to "Folder View" in my custom KDE user profile?
Hi,
I'm currently busy tweaking KDE 4.14 on CentOS 7 to my needs. I want to
use it as a base for an enterprise class desktop. In my humble opinion,
CentOS' default KDE configuration is not very usable, so I created a
default user profile that looks more like what openSUSE looked like a
few years back.
Here's the little script I'm using to install the various configuration
files

Colour filling in panel.bwplot from lattice
Inspired by colouring the dots of box-whisker plots I am trying to also
fill the boxes (rectangles) with different colours. This seems not to
work as I expected.
Looking at the help page of panel.bwplot it says: 'fill - color to fill
the boxplot'. Obviously it is only intended to fill all boxes with only
one colour?
Nevertheless the following example shows, that 'fill' from
